I put mine in an album first because it was too big then I dragged it back out onto my desk top and it was the correct size to post into the thread. Maybe try that (if i didnt confuse you too much)

Under the post message box when you are replying there is an attach images with a 'choose file' button. You can upload from where you saved the pic to your computer.
