postpone

Hello ladies,
Due to some military reasons I might have to postpone my wedding. We naturally already have all our vendors and my first fitting is tomorrow and the girls all just picked up theres.
Has anyone delt with this and know if you can get back deposits or if most will allow you to book another day and stay the same.
Also, my invites have already been mailed, I have had one of my two showers...
We were having an over 200 guest catholic church wedding and reception and now it looks like.. well I don't know what it looks like.

I should know by this weekend what we have to do.. but has anyone delt with this situation..

you have to speak to the hall each place is different, most will not give you back or move your deposit unless they book your day. as far as the dress, i wouldnt alter it, explain to the owner that you have to postpone it, and either leave the dress there for storage or take it home and alter it when you book another date..as far as your girls they wont probably have a problem if they have to wear the dress later, unless you have young girls.. I would send out postponement letters, you can get an idea what to write from the knot...

I am so sorry to hear this.

I have never dealt with this situation but I guess you first thing is to make a decision- postpone or not. The longer you wait to decide the harder it will be. And I am sure the military is not helping you make the decision either. You will need to send a note to all of the guests stating that Due to your FH or your call to service the wedding needs to be postponed. Have you considered having a smaller ceremony and then postponing the party only? Not sure what is possible.
Then you need to start re-booking all of the vendors. You will probably need a lot of phone time to get all of this done but I am sure with a few people helping it will be okay.
Good Luck.

So sorry you have to deal with this stressfull issue.

I am thinking positive for you. I wouldnt do anything with the vendors until I knew for sure what the situation was. If you do need to postpone start making calls right away.

Thank you all for your concern. It's can't be moved up because he is a cadet waiting to be commissioned a 2LT. A cadet isn't allowed to be married and or have dependants. Basically due to circumstances beyond our control right now his comissioning date is being changed to who knows what??
We might be ok, we will know by this week hopefully.
Please keep us in your prayers there are many plans that this is changing argh!

I'm have no idea what I'm talking about

But if the issue is that he can't be married while a cadet, couldn't you just go ahead & have the wedding but just not be licensed by the state? I mean, if you are married in a church you'd be married in a religous & emotional sense, but as far as teh government is concerned, you wouldn't really be married. Then, after he was commissioned you could get officially married. I don't know if that works, but it seems like a way to still have the wedding. Personally, I wouldn't care that it wasn't official for a little bit, because for my fiance & I it would be real. Anyway, just a suggestion.

I agree. But unfotuntaly the Air Force would have to allow him to come to NY for it. He is in colorado and the wedding is in NY and on a Friday.
There might be a way to get around things and still have them work out, I really have to wait till the end of the week to know things for sure.

Thanks:)

Church wedding

I did not read the earlier posts, so excuse me if I misunderstood the posting. I do not believe that a wedding in a church would only be considered 'religious and emotional.' It is my understanding that a wedding in a church is a valid wedding in New York recognized by law. Also, I know my church would not marry us without a license.

Yes, no need to argue the validity of the wedding. The chuch wedding would be recognized by the state and the church but it is the Air Force that wouldn't recognize it and that is our lively hood so we need them to approve.
Hopefully by the end of the week we will know more about postponing or not.
I basically just came on to find out what people thought of the vendors issues and for support and thanks to everyone who gave me that:)
