Potted Plants as centerpieces?

Potted Plants as centerpieces?

So I'm trying to save us money since FH feels I went over budget on the photographer. I told him I'll save us money elsewhere. So for centerpieces my mom gave me the idea of potted plants, for example hydrangea. That way, the flowers can be planted in our guests' gardens and won't just die within a couple of days after our wedding. Also, they will remember our wedding every time they see it.
Our theme is the beach(shells and sand) so I wanted to know what you girls thought of this idea with a potted plant as the center, sand all around it with shells. Also, if you could help me find pictures of potted plants as centerpieces, I'd appreciate it!
I'll take all the input I can get! TIA and sorry for the long post!

I was thinking about doing the same thing. I like the idea of something that won't die in a few days.

I love the idea. I 'won' the centerpiece once at a friends wedding and she did potted Montauk daisies....I have a home and planted them in my garden and LOVE to see them pop up each year. I have also seen mums done for the fall..

With the centerpiece, I was thinking of having a little sign with some saying about remember us, so they could put it next to the plant in their garden.

Other than hydrangea what are other summer flowers that can be planted in a garden?

I was thinking of petunias but they are annuals so they won't come back each year.

I think it's a great idea! One of my cousins had potted plant centerpieces at his wedding (and I think the plants came from his FW's family farm). You could put the plants in pails to coordinate with the beach theme.

Thanks for the pictures!! Yes, I was thinking of using a pail!

Some pictures:

And something non-floral that you could DIY as an alternate centerpiece:

These are gorgeous! It's a great idea!

I think the idea if great, but how would you decide out of the 10 or so people at the table, who would get the centerpiece?
I've seen one game with passing around the napkin, which i think is tacky.
For my uncle's bday party (which was around xmas), the person's whose birthday was closest to xmas got the centerpiece (i won, my bday is 12/25).

At my MOH's wedding, the DJ told every table to have one person take out a dollar. The people at the table had to pass around the dollar to the music. When the music stopped, the person with the dollar kept the dollar and the person who provided the dollar, got the centerpiece.
