How am i supposed to enjoy planning my wedding? My soon to be mother in law has lung cancer and feels horrible right now, and my father just found out he needs bars and screws in his wrist (he broke it on father's day and it didn't set right)- he's been wearing a cast for 2 weeks and it did nothing.
That's only the worst- in between there was my mother finding out that she has a lump on her breast that she needs to have checked every 3 months.
I feel like I shouldn't be having a big wedding because everytime me and my mother get into it and start planning, we get more bad news.
I prayed so hard that he wouldn't need surgery--it's going to put him out of work for so long - it really stinks :(

My prayers are with you! Your wedding is a wonderful event coming at a time when you family needs to be distracted by something positive. If you and FH can deal with all of this stress, then you can deal with anything!

I'm so sorry you have to go through all of this. The previous poster is right - the rest of your family is going to enjoy your wedding that much more because it will be a happy distraction and a time to celebrate. From your previous posts, we know that you and your FH are extremely caring and wonderful people who are good to your families and each other's families. Both of your families are lucky to be gaining a son/daughter. It's kind of a mixed blessing in the sense that, while nobody wants to experience tragedy, it does put the wedding stuff in perspective and focus your attention on what's important. Just hang in there and lean on your FH for support. No matter what happens, you'll have a great wedding!

Wow, I am soooo sorry to hear all this!!! I agree that you should go ahead with everything you want for your wedding because it WILL be a much needed HAPPY event for everyone in your family! Your wedding will be the light at the end of the tunnel!

I agree. My engagement was not a surprise because my FH and I wanted to be engaged before my grandfather died. It was a bittersweet time because I was so upset he was sick and dying but at the same time for him being able to celebrate was very uplifting and gave him strength.

I believe in God I truly do so I know that whatever is meant to be will be- but I have the worst feeling that my FH is going to call off the wedding because of not wanting to leave his mother while she is sick--while i am busy planning the wedding and taking care of her- all he seems to think about is the fact he is leaving her while she is sick and even if i am completely wrong- it makes me feel insecure and hurt.

I'm praying for you!!! I know how hard it is to plan your wedding with so much going on. Two important people in my family died within 2 months of each other and FH's aunt died a week after one of my aunts. It really devistated us all, but we pulled through and even used the wedding as a little therapy at times to enjoy life.
