I have to schedule pre cana soon with my church, and I just told my fh about it, and he said he does not want to go and is being very difficult about this. Is anyone else in the same situation, if so, how did you convince him to go?

Re: Pre cana
The diocese sometimes does a pre cana weekend. This is what we did and we were glad to get it done quickly. And (shhhh!) they let us out early both days.
If you google 'diocese of rockville centre' you should be able to find their website.

Quite simply told him: without pre cana, there is no wedding. that did the trick. truth be told, he wasn't really difficult once he understood what it was. He just didn't understand why it was required.

Re: Pre cana
my FH knows that we have to do it in order to get married in the Church. At first he wasnt thrilled (mostly b/c he has to take time off from work) but people have told him its not as bad as he thinks and sometimes its actually a lot of fun.
So we received a letter in the mail saying our Pre Cana starts on Feb 1 and 2nd. He didnt seem to be bothered by it now

I am actually finishing my pre-cana this weekend. It's not bad at all. FH and I were dreading it for months but we actually enjoyed it. We decided to do 2 Saturdays and each day is suppossed to be about 4 or 5 hours but they let us out early too.

Re: Pre cana
As far as I know its a requirement to get married in a church. Tell him its really not half as bad as he thinks it is. You meet with a group or people and talk about different issues and topics that come up during marriage. You talk about the differences you and FH have as far as family upbringing, etc. It ISNT like religion class and stuffy. We enjoyed it actually

Re: Pre cana
I had a really intense Pre Cana Retreat that was Friday night to Sunday late afternoon. Had to sleep there and everything. FH was not thrilled AT ALL about it. But the fact was and is, I am Catholic. I will not get married outside the church, we will raise our future children Catholic. He knows this, and agrees to this so there is not choice. He had to go to pre cana if he wanted to marry me. So he ****** it up and did it.
It was not bad AT ALL! I was worried I was going to hate it, but I really actually enjoyed it. My bf and her DH said the same thing. They were worried but were really happy they did it in the end. Just tell him it is only for a couple of days out of his life, and to suck it up.

Re: Pre cana
Everybody I know who has been through pre-cana all complained about it beforehand and after it was done, there wasn't one person who said it was horrible. Everybody basically said the same thing, 'It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.'
Maybe you can register for one of those weekend ones so you get it over and done with?

Re: Pre cana
We did the weekend retreat as well, and it wasn't bad at all! We stayed overnight from Friday to Sunday, but now we are completely done! So if that sounds better maybe that is something that is an option for you? Talk to the priest who is marrying you, maybe he can suggest the best option!
