Re: pre-cana

Pre-Cana is different at each parish. My husband and I did it with one couple and it was with one couple who went through this compatiability test we took with us and talked to us about our strengths and weaknesses. The test was great because it make as focus on issues we hadn't necessarily talked about yet. Don't be worried that they are going to ask you super personal questions or anything. Our couple didn't and we were grateful. :)

Growing up my parents volunteered and were a lead couple in our parish and the way that worked was they had a bunch of couples over one night a week for like 4 weeks and just talked about what they were supposed to go over with them. I think because of that I never worried what it would be like. It was always something chill.

I hope it is a positive experience for you and your future husband. If you have any questions feel free to write me back.

Pre cana for us is for 6 weeks. I dont necessarily love it. There are 13 couples with 'lead couples'. It gets kinda boring sometimes because there really isnt that much time for us to talk..and we get homework...I hope it gets better because I really havent found it all that useful so far.

LIke a PP said its different for each Parish.

Ours was 3 meetings for 1 1/2 hours each, we had 2 group couples (they were older and had been members of the parish for years) and then 5 other engaged couples. We talked about general marriage things, how you will split holidays with the ILs, how to fight with out fighting, the bills and money, etc.-all different situations that come up during marriage-talks about children, adoption if need be, how they will be raised, etc. etc.

That was it. After that we did the FOCCUS test, but it wasnt really a test, you answered and then the two of you had your answers scanned for differences and similarities....once done you make a time to go over it with another group leader. You go over the differences etc.

They dont ask personal questions-if they do i would tell them that there are certain questions that you are not willing to answer-PERIOD. Its really not that bad, we enjoyed it b/c even tho we have lived together most of our relationship there were things we had never really talked about.
