Re: Pre Cana

Its actually not that bad. We went 3 Tuesdays in March for 2 hours each and were with 25 couples. It surprised me that my FH participated as much as he did. We discussed things like family, children and finances and we separated and did work sheets but never discussed our answers. We benefited a lot from it, I feel and we discussed things that we felt may be an issue when we are married.

Good Luck!

Re: Pre Cana

mine was sooooo boring. It really all depends on the couple running the program. They talk about all different kinds of things that could cause problems in marriages.......it is nothing to stress over and not really religious.

Mine wasn't terrible, it could've been worse. It was 3 Thursday nights for 2 hours each. The first night was a couple that's been married like 30 years talking about compromise, fighting, etc. We also took some quizzes about how well we know each other....FH failed

The second night they had a clinical psychologist from NYPD who specializes in stress management and also does marriage counseling. He was really good....very real, to the point, interesting. FH really like him.

The last night was supposed to be the NYPD guy again, but he couldn't come so they had a deacon come in. He talked all about the importance of spirituality in our marriage......it was alright.

The important thing is, now it's over

Oh and I saw this post on the '09 board and you were concerned b/c you're not Catholic. No concern. My FH isn't Catholic, he's Episcopal, but we're getting married in the Catholic church b/c of me. They didn't give him any problems at all. It really wasn't as much about 'religion' as it was about marriage and spirituality.

Re: Pre Cana

Ours really wasn't bad. We went on Friday night for a few hours and then most of Saturday.

The couple that led the program was married like 20 years and had a bunch of kids. They talked to us about fights that they have had, how they resolved them and how to keep your marriage strong after you have kids.

You will get to learn things about FH that you never knew and he might learn things about you too.

Aside from the fact that it was held in church it really wasn't religious. It was more about marriage.

We haven't gone yet, but our church offers it as a saturday (8a-4p) at the church where a bunch of married couples talk about their lives (the whole time) and then sunday 8a-11a...

I don't want to do it! i want to contact SJB (where i went to HS) and see what their program is like, father tom (the priest) suggested them, saying its a little more 'physical'

i want something like 'licensed to wed'

FH just wants to get it done and over with!

Re: Pre Cana

We did ours over a few weeks. The 1st time was a meeting where we met the married couples teams and the other engaged couples.

The 2nd time we took the FOCCUS test. This was great because it is taken separately and then shows how you and FH relate to all sorts of lifes topices.

The next 4 Mondays we did a meeting at the married couples house with the engaged couples in our group. It lasted no more than 2 hours or so.

We had a great time; learning all about different things, how the married couples have made choices in their relationships and even things that the engaged couples go through also.

The last meeting was at church where we went to mass then had a brunch.

Both FH and I thought it was a great experience.

You have no worries!
