I'm so stumped right now because we spoke to our priest in Jan. and we were just given the pre cana book yesterday to sign up for it. The problem? You have to sign up TWO months in advance meaning we can't take the class until August. What's up with that? Please help me if you know of any Catholic precans programs quick. THANK YOU!

Re: PRE CANA HELP
I thought you had to take Pre Cana at your church. It may sound stupid but does the priest know that your wedding is in September and you'll be crazed come August?

Re: PRE CANA HELP
I read something about that too in the booklet but I just submitted 2 dates in June and they accepted one of them. Was it the priest that told you you had to do it in august?

Re: PRE CANA HELP
Maybe you should call your diocese and see if they can help. I'm part of the Brooklyn diocese and we went to a pre-cana at a different church. I'm very shocked that your priest didn't mention pre-cana sooner. Most couples take it early so it's done. We took ours in November for an April wedding.

Re: PRE CANA HELP
No not the priest. That's what the booklet said! My diocese is Brooklyn also and I was wondering if it would be a problem if I take the class through another Diocese.

Re: PRE CANA HELP
Our priest did not tell us when we had to do it. As a matter of fact he told me we should do it as soon as possible and get it out of the way. He said it is a really good way of either confirming your decision to marry or really highlighting the problems. We did our precana in December and we're getting married in August.

Re: PRE CANA HELP
I also received a booklet, and made the appt asap. We did out pre-cana in Nov, getting married this sept... I hope that certificate doesn't expire...
Here's the info of the one we went to:
Marriage Preparation Program for Archdiocese of New York is held on specific Saturdays at Mount Manresa (in Staten Island) from 9am to 4pm. To register for this program, please contact your parish. If you are not registered in a parish, contact the Archdiocese of New York 212-371-1000 x3198.
Hope that helps.

I sent in the form for a class a month later and it wasn't a problem. I would send it in asap though!

Re: PRE CANA HELP
We just finished up pre cana...and there were two couples not getting married from our church...one was actually getting married up in MA....so you can go anywhere for pre cana...and you can do a weekend of it too....i believe there are websites for the archdiocese that you can go to and they list pre cana sessions

Thanks sooo much this is the website for the book I have already though. I called and they told me not to worry about the two month thing. She said June is booked but July is open. Thanks for all your help ladies!

Re: PRE CANA HELP
What is actually done in pre cana? Is it like an actual class with reading and stuff or is it more like a discussion class.
