Pre-natals while TTC

Went to ob/gyn last night and dr. put me on pre-natals although we have two months before we start TTC. Anyone else on them? Also, they list 1mg of Folic Acid - while I thought we were suppossed to be taking 400 mg? If anyone can shed light on this, would appreciate it.

I am taking them, but they are Pre-Care Conceive. My dr. said that when I do get preggo that they will give me different ones.
The ones I have both me and hubby can take them.

my dr told me to just take a multivitamin that had folic acid in it....maybe it's just for now before we TTC and succeed....but I got the CVS brand (comparable to Centrum for Women) and it's fine...no stomach problems.

I am on them as well, and we are not actively TTC.

I am taking GNC prenatals. My doctor said they were good. It has 800 mcg of folic acid.

What kind were you prescribed?

I was on Precare conceive and they were making me so sick, so I switched to GNC so far so good, but I have only just started to take the GNC ones. I have been on them since December, we just started to TTC, but my doctor told me to start taking them.

I'm not sure of the name - I have to check tonight when I go home...but I was sure it said 1 mg folic acid which didn't make sense. Wish I were TTC already but have to get through the wedding first!

Maybe it was 1 milligram which would be 1000 micrograms. That would make sense.

Wish we were TTC and we are already married!
Waiting for DH to give us the A OK!

I got mine from Target (the store brand) and I have had no problems with them. They also have 800mcg (i think) of folic acid.

Re: Pre-natals while TTC

This is from Babycenter.com

Question: We’re trying to get pregnant, and my doctor told me to start taking folic acid. How much folic acid should I be taking?

Answer: The recommended daily intake of folic acid for all women of childbearing age is at least 400 micrograms (mcg), or 0.4 milligrams (mg). Taking folic acid before conception reduces the risk of neural-tube defects such as spina bifida.

During pregnancy, the recommended dose jumps up to 600 - 800 mcg, or 0.6 - 0.8 mg, a day. Of course, some women's needs are different. If you have a family history of neural-tube defects, you should probably get 4,000 mcg (or 4 mg) of folic acid a day. Talk to your doctor about how much you need before and after you conceive. Folic acid is a water-soluble vitamin, so your body will flush out the excess if you consume too much. For some women, there's an exception to this rule: Getting too much folate may hide a B-12 deficiency, sometimes a problem for vegetarians. Ask your doctor or midwife if you think you may be at risk. Be sure to take our folic acid quiz to find out more about this essential nutrient.

The prenatals that I took when I was pregnant made me naseus as well. So, I took them before I went to bed.
