along with your 'fee - donation' to the church............do you also have to pay a fee for the precana class????
i was reading through the papers and i saw a fee price, but the deacon never said anything about paying for that also?????

Re: precana.....
wow, i dont even want to say what my church cost....not that its a huge amount or anything, but its more than that and then a nother small fee on top of it for that class, but i gotta check and see if we have to pay for the precana.

Re: precana.....
I had to do pre-cana thru the diocese cause my pastor doesn't do it anymore, and we ended up going to the Brooklyn diocese cause it was the least expensive, but it was still $175!
I agree that they shouldn't charge for something that's mandatory.

Re: precana.....
I think it depends on your church. Ours was included in our donation b/c we did pre cana through our church. If we went some where else - like the weekend class- it would have been an extra fee

Re: precana.....
Church - $600 Organist (whether we use her or not) - $200 Pre-cana - $90 (we're doing it outside of our diocese)
I'm not even sure if FOCCUS is additional because our church in NJ doesn't include it in the Pre-Cana. We're considering not even doing it because the deacon marrying us won't review the results with us. The whole process is leaving me very disenchanted.

Re: precana.....
My church is $500 (including the organist) and Pre-cana is $175. The amount is $175 whether I go to my church, or go to another church

Re: precana.....
My church is $500 but that includes everything. Organist, precana, focus, rehersal and day of. I think we have to tip that day but other than that $500 covers it. I hate that they call it a donation. It's not! It is a fee!!! When you donate, you decide what to give!! And it sure as HELL wouldn't be $500!!

Re: precana.....
Our church no longer does pre-cana so we had to do it through the diocese. We paid $175. Annoying but not the end of the world.

Church - $600 Pre Cana - $175 Tip
I believe I also read somewhere that I need to leave some type of refundable deposit ($250) in case the ceremony's delayed or something. Have to reread about that one.

it may be mandatory, but the Church still has to purchase the necessary materials like the books that the couple are given, costs for other materials, refreshments, etc. etc. Also, if you are going to a retreat or something like that, sometimes the church has to pay to rent the space.
Doing it through my church, it only cost $50.00. if you go through the diocese it can be $250 and up because they are usually weekend retreats (cost of meals, materials, etc. are factored in)
