Pregnant Bride needs dress advice

Pregnant Bride needs dress advice

I haven't been dress shopping yet but I am freaking out. I am having my wedding 11 weeks AFTER I have the baby. I decided not to rush the wedding planning & stress myself out. And I wanted to dance & enjoy my wedding (and have a drink Well, that didn't work becuase I'm stressed anyway.

Basically, my body has been taken over by an alien. I'm 5 months along & I clearly have a belly. I have gone from a 34C to a 38DD. I have inherited Fred Flintstone's feet and ankles.

How the heck am I supposed to pick a wedding dress now? Do I find a dress now & pray that it flatters my new body? Do I wait & buy something off the rack AFTER the baby? Do I just buy a HUGE dress now & have it altered afterwards? Help!!!!

Well, I would go order a dress ASAP. You can tell the shop your dilemma, and they will be able to help you. Probably I would order the dress one size smaller than they measure you - its always better for it to be a bit big than small!! But I think one size would be save to compensated for your body now and your body post-pregnancy.

Congratulations on your baby!

YIKES - I have NOOOOO idea! I would say call up some stores and ask them, they know best about alterations and timing and all of that...
that is the only think I can think of.

I would go to the bridal shops and talk to the ladies there, they will know what to do I would go now though, I wouldn't wait til after the baby is born.

Congradulations on being prego!!

I have no experience on the matter but I agree with the above posters in that you shouold not wait until the baby's born to try & look for a dress.

You can guestimate probably how much weight gain you'll end up by the end of the pregnancy based on where you are now. You'll have approximately 3 months to shed some pregnancy weight before your wedding. If you breast feed, the weight loss will even be quicker. Try looking around to see if you find something you like.

Otherwise, getting something off the rack may be last resort.

Congrats on the baby!

Congrats on the new baby! I think you should start looking for a dress and pick a dress in consulation with the salon's seamstress based on the type of dress that would be easiest to alter. Many brides lose a lot of weight between the time they order the dress and when it comes in.

Go to the store and ask them...if tey are just as clueless as us then I think you should get a maternaty dress that fits now and then have it fitted to you after the baby is born.. Congrats on the baby...do you know what you are having?

I would get a dress that isn't so form fitting, like an A-line or ball gown style. I would definitely buy the dress a little bigger, then alter it as needed a month before the wedding.

Thanks everyone for your help....

Hopefully 11 weeks will be enough time to shed this weight. My mother swears its '9 months up & 9 months down.' Not very encouraging... so I'm very stressed out.

I was thinking ball gown or A-line would have to be the way to go, even though I had a dress picked out (pre-baby) that was a gorgeous trumpet. But I guess that's pushing it. I mean, what if I really do still have the baby weight?

BTW - it's a girl

Congrats! How exciting!

I have a few friends who went in and purchased their dress and took it home the same day, so if you want to wait you have options. You just have to be flexible on the style. David's Bridal will do this.

At first I read 11 days, and I was thinking that wow, that baby is REALLY going to be born late!

No, I agree with the other posters. Try to get something not too form fitting, a little bigger than your normal size (maybe 2 sizes up, they can alter it down). Plus since you may be big on top after the baby, you may want to go with straps or something that isn't too low cut.

I have no advice on the dress but I wanted to say CONGRATS on your baby girl! You will look gorgeous regardless of what dress you choose!!!
