DH and i are going to start TTC in june and i wanted to start taking prenatals now. the dr. gave me a few sample packs and a prescription for Citrical. the vitamin has a stool softner. i started taking them last night and this morning (TMI) i felt as if i took ex-lax. anyone else have/had this problem?

Re: Prenatal Vitamin Question and Stool Softner
Stool softener is usually much more mild you shouldn't feel like you took exlax, it should just be easier for you to go to the bathroom. Although Im not really sure why the dr. gave you vitamins with stool softener in them at this stage. Some PG women get consitpated and need the stool softener but if you aren't PG and not even TTC until June, I would ask him to give you a prenatal withOUT stool softener in it for now.

Re: Prenatal Vitamin Question and Stool Softner
thanks for the advice. perhaps it is my body's way of reacting to vitimans. i NEVER take vitamins. it could also be due to what i ate last night. i'll see how the next couple of days are. it was only for about an hour after i woke up, no problems since.

I take them too - but I take mine at night before bed at the advice of some of the girls here - having much less trouble than before (was feeling sick all day).
I will say that I 'go' a lot more than I used to before them, but it's not like exlax.
I would give it a couple more days then call your dr.

My dr. suggested just taking a regulay multi-vitamin instead of specific prenatal ones. She said they're the same thing.

Re: Prenatal Vitamin Question and Stool Softner
I took the GNC generic prenatals without Iron because the Iron was too much and I was seriously constipated while PG. You had to see the techniques I was using to get my body to go...chanting on the bowl, praying, etc. It really wasn't funny, I was freaking at one point cause I just couldn't go

Re: Prenatal Vitamin Question and Stool Softner
no bathroom problems today, but my stomach has been feeling a little cramping. i am suuming that it is because AF is due in a couple of days or my body is telling me to eat something prior to 5:00pm.
