I want to get Prenatal Vitamins ASAP. Should I get a prescription for them or is over-the-counter ok? Can you girls recommend a brand name, or does that not matter? Thanks!

Re: Prenatal Vitamins
I got prenatal vitamins from my doc. but if you are going to get them over the counter make sure they have a high dosage of folic acid. It plays a major part in the neurological development.

Re: Prenatal Vitamins
I'm not sure of any OTC brands since I was just taking a multi-vitamin (w/ enough Folic Acid) when we were TTC.
I've been taking Prenate (by prescription) since I was 5 weeks pg.

Call your obgyn and they can probably just call you in a perscription over the phone since it is just a vitamin. You also might want to make an apt for a checkup if you havent gone recently, for a pap and all. This way if anything was god forbid wrong they can treat it now before you get pregnant. Relax! Have fun! Lots of baby dust to you!!!!!!

Re: Prenatal Vitamins
I never really had a true TTC 'phase'...we just ended up PG after 2 months of not using any birth control method. Prior to pregnancy, I was taking Women's Ultra Mega from GNC just about twice a day. During pregnancy, my Rx was for Materna prenatals.
However, you can use a simple OTC prenatal while you are TTC, and then your OB will prescribe a Rx prenatal vitamin to take during your pregnancy.
Congratulations and good luck! **************BABY DUST****************!

Re: Prenatal Vitamins
i just used one a day for women while trying - and my dr. kept me on them this whole time, no prescription. As long as it has the folic acid you need and you are eating a healthy diet you are o.k.! Good Luck!
