Re: prenatal vitamins
Yes definitely. Everyone should be taking a multivitamin and then for hair/nail growth take a B complex vitamin and some vitamin E. I take the multi, a b complex and fish oil everyday and no side effects--I feel good!!! Def try to get quality from a health food store...don't recommend GNC.

Ah yes, you will get nauseous if you don't eat before taking them. Always take on a full stomach after breakfast.

Re: prenatal vitamins
i have been taking them for over a year.
They dont bother my stomach... but I know they bother a lot of people. I take them after dinner.
The only side effect would be if you pick vitamins with loads of iron -- can cause constipation?
You're better off getting Biotin or they have specific vitamins that mention 'nail, hair and skin' on the bottle.
If you're worried... just get that.

My friend takes pre-natal vitamins daily and she swears by them. She's not trying to get pregnant either.

Re: prenatal vitamins
I've been taking prenatals for a little while now. I have had no problem with nausea, or any side effects. I asked my doctor if I should be taking prenatals if we want to get pregnant within a year or so after getting married, and she said definitely. So I'm taking them now for my hair, but it's also preparing my insides (haha) for pregnancy.

Re: prenatal vitamins
Just before I was pregnant & during pregnancy my hair & skin was the best I've ever seen!! I have heard that it does make you more fertile. So with that being said just be careful & for the nausea I would just take the prenatal just before bed with a big glass of water so it wouldn't make me sick. By being pregnant also I would always need cookies&milk or cereal at night. So I didn't take them on an empty stomach. HTH

From a doctors perspective (Not to sound like an @ss).... every woman of child bearing age should be taking SOME form of multivitamin....mostly for the folic acid. Folic acid prevents nueral tube defects in the fetus (spina bifida being the most common)...and the folic acid is needed in the first few weeks after conception....so by the time you realize your preggers....its too late. As for hair/nail growth....agreed Biotin is helping, but i'm not super knowlegable on the science behind it. GNC makes a 'Hair, Skin and Nail' pill that my friends love...but its kinda stinky.
Prenatal vitamins can make you feel nauseous....but taking it on a full stomach should help. And yes, too much iron can make you constipated, but usually its when you take ferrous sulfate pills on their own, i dont believe there is enough iron in a simple prenatal vit to have that effect. Also, drinking plenty of water throughout the day should help.
As for the prenatal vitamins making you more fertile....i've never heard that one. I guess if you weren't all that healthy before hand, and now your giving your body the nutrients its needs....yea your body may be more 'willing' to grow a baby....but its not really the pills that pop out extra eggs or anything.
Sorry for the long rant, but i usually try to put my 2cents in when its medical related on the board. In a nut shell....go out and buy prenatals, or at least a good multivit with folic acid.

Na, when i write my scrips for the prenatals (yea...people on medicaid get them for free so i write a script for them...) I just write 'prenatal vitamins'.... i let the drug store decide. They are all basically the same.
