I'm taking them now and the doctor said I can take them before, during and after pregnancy. I'm not preggo yet. I can't take the birth control pill because it makes me vomit but I haven't had any stomach issues with the pre-natal vitamins.

My doctor said that hair is made up of different proteins and biotin. I started taking a biotin supplement and monitoring how much protein I was eating. I noticed a big difference. Even my eyelashes grew.

If the woman takes a multivitamin everyday, then is it safe to ALSO take the pre-natal vitamins?

Or is that TOO much vitamins?

>Na, when i write my scrips for the prenatals

Woah, you need a prescription for them?
I guess that means they are $$$$$ (compared to vitamins like Centrum)

The OTC prenatals have the same ingredients in them that the Hair/Skin/Nails vitamins have in them... it's a marketing thing. The only thing different might be the levels of iron and folic acid. There's nothing wrong with taking an OTC prenatal as a daily vitamin for your general health.

Also, it won't help your hair grow faster, but it will make it strong which reduces breakage and makes each hair stay long for a longer period of time.

I just write 'prenatal vitamins'.... i let the drug store decide. They are all basically the same.

By the way, this is the most annoying thing in the world. Very hard to fill scripts without a product specified. We're not supposed to fill it if it just says 'prenatal vitamins' but most pharmacists just pick one to save the aggravation from having to call a clinic cause we know we won't get thorugh to a physician for nine years....

Do us a favor and pick a brand you like and just make that the one you wrote for all the time, it would make the filling process so much easier and faster!

And not only people on Medicaid get them for free... the presciption ones are covered by almost all insurance, Medicaid or otherwise.

I've been taking prenatals for a little while now. I have had no problem with nausea, or any side effects. I asked my doctor if I should be taking prenatals if we want to get pregnant within a year or so after getting married, and she said definitely. So I'm taking them now for my hair, but it's also preparing my insides (haha) for pregnancy.

Do you notice anything different?

I'm not sure yet. I just recently started feeling like i noticed my hair to be growing faster than normal, but that may just be in my head. I def notice it in my nails though because I always bite my nails, and they are def growing (or repairing themselves) faster than normal.

You should pic either a regular multivitamin or a prenatal...i wouldnt take both...
You don't NEED a script for them...but many people in my hospital wont buy ANYTHING over the counter....so we write the scripts.

When i was in med school we basically wrote our scripts and then had the doctor we were working for sign them, and sometimes the clinics would just have them on the computer and we would click what we want. Every PNV i wrote just said 'prenatal vit with iron'....i dont even know any brands lol. Thankfully i'm done with clinics and OBGYN so i'll never have to write that script again!
