Ok....so this is random.....but, a friend of mine's mom actually invited the president to all three of her son's weddings and received a nice letter in return (clearly stating that he is too busy to attend) but congratulating the happy couple on their marriage.
OK--- so I know a LARGE # of people do not like the current president....but he is still the President of the United States.
soooo....in other words, I will most likely be purchasing an additional invite (separate from the one I already have designated for Billy Joel ) just to get the letter to add to my wedding scrap book!!

You have to request a formal Papal Blessing. I don't believe he responds to invitations. To request a formal blessing, you need to get the proper paperwork from your parish and have your priest verify that you are both Catholics and/or that the marriage will be recognized by the Church. You then send in the paperwork to the Vatican with a $40.00 donation. You will receive a Papal Blessing on parchment paper from the Vatican with your names and the date of the marriage. The Pope blesses the parchments once a month and it is sent to you in time for your wedding.
If you are an early 2007 wedding i would get on this ASAP. they ask you to allow a few months for it to be processed and to get back to you.

Thanks to donegal419's help, I ordered a Papal blessing through the Diocese of Brooklyn since I'm getting married in Queens. I requested mine 14 months in advance and the Diocese contacted me and are holding it until Jan. 2007 to send to the Vatican....still is 10 months before my wedding but I wouldn't wait on it!!

Re: Presidential Invite
Billy Joel is soooooooo much more important than the President. If it is your last invitation, invite him. I LOVE LOVE him. The President--eh!
Anyway, I did invite the President and got a reply. We got a reply that was addressed to us as Mr. and Mrs. Peter. Peter is my hubby MIDDLE NAME. It did appear on the invite, but I never expected to be called Mrs. Peter. Dumbasses!!
