So, I'm 28 weeks and spent the entire day in L&D having contractions :( they did the fiber.... test and it came back negative and all the cultures and tests they ran came back negative so luckily I'm barely dialted and not effaced at all but they have no idea what could have brought it on but maybe stress and seriously I'm really not that stressed and the baby is perfect.
But my question is for those that had PTL how many weeks were you when you had your baby?

Im sorry that you went thru this, My Sil was born premature at 30 weeks and she was fine, I think she stayed in the incubator for a month. I think that there is a preson on here that had her baby at 28 weeks ( baby is Isabelle- Im not sure of her screen name) and I beleive she is doing awesome! Did they say that you would go early? Maybe strict bedrest can keep you going for another few week or even full term. What are the doctors saying?

Re: PreTerm labor
I had the same thing happen at exactly 28 weeks.....then at 31-32 weeks it happened again, but this time I started to efface and dialate. I was put on bedrest until 34 weeks. My baby was born at 37 weeks when my water broke....

Re: PreTerm labor
At about 32 weeks, I went to the OB for a regular visit and non-stress test and was told I was having contractions on regular intervals with baby's heart rate doing strange things and was also sent to L&D. I had no clue I was having them since they weren't painful - I only felt it after it was pointed out to me. So I am not sure if I had had them in earlier weeks. They seemed convinced I would have the baby although I wasn't dilated or effaced. But they went away after a couple hours or so. From then on I had contractions on and off but not on regular intervals. Since I wasn't dialted or anything there was no medical reason for bedrest or anything and I continued everything as usual. I had went into real labor (water broke and all) on the first day of my 37th week - so just cleared pre-term. I also had GD and tested positive for Group Stress B - so not sure if those had anything to do why I went early.

Re: PreTerm labor
I started PTL at 1 weeks and was on bedrest until I delivered at 37 weeks becasue the contracting was causing my cervix to shorten. I was monitored by Matria with a band that I wore around my stomach and they could tell if I was contracting. I suggest the following per my doc orders: No spicy food, bedrest and LOTS of liquids. Goodluck. Lots of moms go through this and go one to have healthy babies

Re: PreTerm labor
I was in preterm labor quite a few times, once on an airplane - fun. I was on Terbutaline and then on bedrest.. I ended up having my son at 36 weeks and he was fine. My sons babysitter had her son at 27 weeks and he is perfect!!!!

Re: PreTerm labor
Thanks for making me feel better ladies!
I've put it in God's hands and also I have faith in the fibernectin(sp) test that I will atleast make it to 8 and 1/2 months.

Re: PreTerm labor
Dehydration..... I had the same thing about 28 weeks, and was in and out of the hospital until someone finally did some stupid test and figured out that the baby was absorbing the fluid quicker than I was consuming, and I was constantly dehydrating.... Drink a load of Gatorades and Vitamin Water... The Dr actually told me to drink the purple flavor(the one that comments on curing hangovers)..
If I had to make a guess that would be it!! Good luck and let me know if this helps!!

Hi, This is baby Isabelle's mom (Mindy0247) and yes she was born very premature. I was admitted in the hospital at 28 weeks with bleeding from placenta previa, had her a week later at 29 weeks. She was in the NICU for 58 days and is now home and doing great! She was born 1pound 9 1/2 oz. I hope everything is ok for you. Have they put you on bedrest? I was admitted into the hospital and was told I was staying there on bedrest for as long as I could hold out (they were hoping at least 8 weeks). Even though my daughter is so perfect now, it was and still is a long and hard road with a preemie. Best of luck and fm if you have any questions.

Re: PreTerm labor
Thank you everyone and especially Mindy and Isabelle!
Even though I spent almost an entire day in L&D I still never saw an actual OB which has basically been the story with my medical care since day 1. I did see a midwife and she tested and checked everything and couldn't come up with a conclusion for why I was having PTL. She let me go in the late evening and the only thing she told me was that I should continue drinking water, eating and just take it easy she said nothing about bedrest and I thought she would tell me to not have relations but she didn't during my discharge. I have a followup with a midwife in my OB clinic on wednesday because my shower is planned for the 12th in PA and I am in Florida so I have had the appointment all along to get my records for the trip and get an OK to travel. They said they will most likely give me an OK to travel because of my fetalfibronecticin test stating that I should *atleast* have two more weeks. I asked to have an appointment with an OB but was told I don't get to see one unless I'm high risk and I guess PTL isn't making me high risk in there eyes. My husband is away and was very upset they didn't keep me over night since they had done my pre admit blood work and I was still having contractions they just weren't regular and we also live over an hour away from the hospital and they knew I was driving myself home to an empty house. He will be back for my appointment on wednesday morning were most likely we will be getting my care transfered to the Naval Hospital of Pensacola which is the same distance but the other direction from our home and away from where he works and were I used to work which is why we were given the OB clinic I have been seen at. I am really scared because I am still spotting but I believe that it is just from the exam.. etc but I've also had a pretty easy going pregnancy which made it easy to ignore the lack of care but at this point I am worried and also worried about switching my care and hoping everything goes smoothly.
I would think that most likely it could have been brought on by the stress of my husband going away, some issues we have had with our builder and that I was slightly underweight prior to the pregnancy but it's scary not knowing why and also not really being told what it is my best course of action to keep my son to stay put for the rest of my pregnancy.
So thanks for letting me vent and sharing your success stories they really help. I've had to shield my husband slightly since where he is at there isn't much he can do and I would much rather have him with his head on straight doing what he is doing rather then worrying about us... (of which he will probably be real pissed at me for but it's our way of life)
I'll keep you posted how my visit goes on wednesday, last night the baby and myself had a growth spurt and he has been somewhat active so that makes me feel alot better but I'm just scared!
