Pretty Private Question

Pretty Private Question

I'm posting under a new user name to keep it anonymous. It is most likely that I will have problems conceiving. DH and I want kids so badly.

Have any of you run into problems conceiving or know of someone with a similar problem to mine? Any advice? Is there something I should do or not do to increase my chances? I will of course be working closely with my doctor, but it would be nice to hear some advice from people who might have gone through something similar.

If this is too personal, I apologize. But I'm scared to death.

Re: Pretty Private Question

First I would like to say
And second, you do not have to post under a special name because you have NOTHING to be ashamed of. There is NO SHAME in this problem.

I have a close friend that has had trouble and they made a decision not to use the shots and surgeries and costly procedures but rather they are adopting a baby girl from China. This is a VERY personal decision and one that takes a lot of soul-searching. For them, the stress of the medical procedures coupled with the low rate of sucess was not what they wanted for themselves. But that doesn't mean it is the right decision for every couple.

I think something very important to remember is that sometimes going to a specialist, more than one, can offer you new opinions, ideas and help. We often put too much faith into one doctor and feel like we are being unfair to them if we seek more help. This is simply NOT true.

Also, you need to decide if you can/ want to spend the money on a lot of very costly procedures, often not covered by medical insurance and often, having a low rate of sucess. For some, this is the ONLY thing that they can or will do. For others, like my friends, they decided to go a different route to start their family.

I am not sure if you have read Taking Control of Your Fertility but that book as helped many of us learn things about our bodies and the way a baby is conceived. I am not sure how long you have been trying or how much research you have done but the book cannot hurt to read.

I wish you luck in your journey to motherhood.

Re: Pretty Private Question

I do not think its shameful when a couple cannot conceive naturally. Women go thru this all the time, my GF just had a healthy baby via IVF, I think I even posted a link for a board for support of couples who are going thru infertility problems, if you want this info let me know. This sometime crosses my mind as well. I would feel free to come on here and let everyone know what I am going thru, I love the ladies on this board and they can be very supportive. All the best to you and your hubby.

Re: Pretty Private Question

First of all ...

to you.

Second of all ....

We are all here for you & would never judge you .... this is a problem that can happen to anyone at any time. I have a gf who conceived naturally ... on her first try! .... with her first & has now been trying for over a year to conceive the second.

I think Michelle's recommendation is very good. The book has a lot of information that you may not have come across & you can begin charting right away to see when you're ovulating. Then you can 'focus your energies' on this time in your cycle.

But I think you also have to stay positive & stay relaxed. How many of us know couples who'd been trying strenuously for ages to conceive, and the minute they stopped trying, It happened!

Lastly, do you know that there will be difficulty or are you just preparing yourself for the possibility? You may be adding stress to this situation that is not needed.

Personally, I bought the Clear Plan Fertility Monitor. I wanted all of the available info to know if or when I was ovulating. I got pg in the first month of using that info! I'm not saying its for everyone, but it happened to work for us.

good luck to you, more & don't forget to have fun trying!!

Re: Pretty Private Question

There is no need to be ashamed. Depending on what type of problem you are having there are many support groups online that you can reach out to.

I suffer from Polycystic Ovarian syndrome and most women with this condition find it very difficult to conceive. I have plenty of online resources that I go to as well as a reprodictive specialist who is great.

Re: Pretty Private Question

There is no shame in your situation. I am pregnant after 29 years of not ovulating, and 6 months under the care of an RE and high risk ob/gyn who specializes in infertility.

Please FM me anytime with questions or just to talk.

Re: Pretty Private Question

Although I am not TTC just yet, I do know that I will have an uphill battle when we start trying this summer. I also do not ovulate on my own, and i take medroxyprogesterone to jump start my system, so to speak.

It's good to know that I have a place to come and hear about others with the same experiences.

to you! I wish you the best. the posts about have some excellent advice and some good warm thoughts.

Re: Pretty Private Question

You are definitely not the only one. While most of my friends have gotten pregnant on the first or second month it has been six months for us and nothing and I've been to my doc and we are doing treatment now.

I don't know what problems you are facing but know that there are several of us here that are going through that and many others that are here for support and encouragement!
