pricing question

pricing question

so, we met with our potential RH yesterday. I'm pretty much set on it. But we still want to try and talk the guy down a bit. Even though it's reasonable as it is, I feel like there's a lot of extra stuff that we don't need. FMIL is driving me crazy with this, which drives me even more nuts bc I don't think she's paying for it at all, so what does she care (FH is unsure how to ask... those are both other vents and posts...)

So how do you talk the guy down? I've never been very good at that kind of thing and I get nervous when others are around (FFIL was with us yesterday when we went...)

Any advice? I know it's mostly menu stuff, and it's so early for that yet, so I feel silly........

TIA

First, don't go in there with the mind set that your already set on it. They can tell and then they won't budget a BIT for you.

How is FH at negotiating stuff?

I found that saying to a place 'this sounds good but we really had a set budget we were trying to stay within...' and then they ask what that is and you go from there. be honest and say to them 'we want to go with you but this is just too much', we did that and negotiated our final 3 choices down a significant amount!

Re: pricing question

He's not bad, and we're telling the guy that we are still looking at two other places... FH is better at deceiving than at negotiating this stuff... I don't think that the guy has an idea that we're set, just that we're serious about having narrowed it down to him and the two others....

I think FH would be better if he actually took the time to sit down with me and go over things like the menu and what we need or don't need........... I think he's ready to listen to his mom even without his own research... (she's already telling her other FDIL that we've decided on these stupid little favors for our wedding, which I told her I don't like)

I was just wondering though how you girls decided on certain things, or if it was easy to negotiate or not...
