Priest at venue?

Priest at venue?

I called the Catholic church around the corner from me to inquire about doing a small church ceremony after my civil ceremony at the venue. I spoke with the pastor and he explained that if we were married civilly the church ceremony would be called a convalidation. He said he couldn't technically condone this, but once its done, its done and then he can 'fix it up' so to speak afterwards.

He then informed me that since FH and I are interfaith, he is permitted to marry us outside of the actual church. He explained that it's only 2 Christians who must marry within a church and the ceremony absolutely cannot be outside.

Has anyone else been told this? I was always under the impression it had to be in a church no matter what.....

I'm also having an interfaith marriage. My pastor was a Bishop and told me the same thing. The only time the church will allow you to get married outside of an actual church is in the case of an interfaith marriage but you still have to do Precana. Since FH and I got engaged we got a new Pastor and there have been no problems with us getting married at the RH.
