prime rib vs filet mignon, worth it?

we tasted the filet at our tasting and it melts in your mouth, we loved it...but it is $7 more per person (whether or not they order it) than the prime rib....what would you do (my dad will give me the extra if I want it) ?? thanks!

Re: prime rib vs filet mignon, worth it?

Prime rib was served at my wedding and it was great. While we made a couple of additions to our cocktail hour, I didn't think that upgrading the main course was necessary or worth the extra $$.

Re: prime rib vs filet mignon, worth it?

To me - definitely! A good filet mignon doesn't even compare to Prime Rib.

Re: prime rib vs filet mignon, worth it?

How did the Prime rib taste?
I had a choice also and went with the Prime rib.
7 dollars is alot. As long as the Prime Rib taste good, I dont think your guests would be dissapointed.

Re: prime rib vs filet mignon, worth it?

In my opinion, I'd stick w/ the Prime Rib unless it was TRULY something that mattered to you. I feel that my gustes will enjoy the Prime Rib w/out me having to spend an extra 1000.00 for Filet. Of course the Filet is better but at a wedding, not necessary. Again, just my opinion.

Re: prime rib vs filet mignon, worth it?

Im not a big fan of red meat, but I agree with filet mignon over Prime Rib, but if the extra $$$ IS an issue, than I would go with your budget.

Re: prime rib vs filet mignon, worth it?

I love prime rib and as long as it tastes good, then you have nothing to worry about. $7 is a lot. We upgraded our cocktail and desserts.

People fill up on food from the cocktail hour, they are usually not even that hungry for dinner...

My FH is a huge steak lover and he would take prime rib over filet mignon any day.

Re: prime rib vs filet mignon, worth it?

I would taste BOTH and then decide. I like both, so to me it would be fine either way. But the proof is always in the taste.

Re: prime rib vs filet mignon, worth it?

oooh...filet mignon!!!! That get's my vote, but like my FH says, most people don't go to weddings with high expectations when it comes to food. It's not like going to a restaurant.

Re: prime rib vs filet mignon, worth it?

Just want to add that $7/person for filet mignon is not an outrageous amount. Im not sure who your caterer is but if they are using a high quality filet, that is somewhere in the neighborhood of $10-$20/lb. Prime rib is probably 1/3 of that.

Re: prime rib vs filet mignon, worth it?

I think 7/pp is a lot. When you think about it, if you are having 100 people, that is an extra $700. But If its in your budget, I would go for the filet.

Re: prime rib vs filet mignon, worth it?

Thanks girls! I went with the filet, and I am happy about it. I didn't like spending the extra money, but at least I KNOW the steak will be good and tender! Thanks for the advice!!
