I did it and it was really easy. But it took a few envelopes to test print and get the spacing exactly right. I also printed the inner envelopes.
I have a laser printer but a cheap one (HP 1006). Honestly, after I'd printed about 10 at a time, the next few came out with a little bit of smudges on them from the ink starting to get too hot. So I'd have to turn off the printer for a few minutes until I could start printing again. Just something to be aware of if you're a super perfectionist.

Re: printing address's straight on the envelope
I don't know if you want to do this but my invite lady warned me about printing straight on the envelope in case it smears, I guess it also depends on the paper type. So she told me to print the addresses on clear labels and stick them on the invites, so far they look good and its so much easier.
I printed the addresses on my envelopes. It was kind of hard with my printer I had to hand feed each one through individually. If I had it do over I would have done like 10 at a time and started earlier so it wouldn't have been so tedious. Definitely worth the effort though to save the $$$
make sure u have a few extra envelopes in case they get stuck

My one suggestion..........cut a few pieces of paper to the size of the envelope and do samples on those first so you don't ruin your envelopes.

Re: printing address's straight on the envelope
I have a inkjet and they came out just fine! No smear or nothing.
I had to do them one by one though and sometimes they would just come through without printing and give me printer errors. So occasionally I would have to try 2-3 times for one to print. But it'll print at the end. DEF make sure you have extras!
