printing my own album?

Original post by lindseynaggle

It seems like every photographer I like is $5000+ which is more than I wanted to spend. On the other hand, pictures are really important to me. Could I hire an awesome photographer and print the albums myself? My FH uses Photoshop every day for work, so he could do any retouching, but I don't want a cheap looking album either. Thoughts? Anyone every do this? Thanks!

Okay why is it that one of the photographers I like charges $1900 for a 12x12 album and Shutterfly charges $70 (both leather bound). What is the studio providing Shutterfly isn't, because that is a HUGE difference!

It depends on what type of album they're giving you. If it's a Flush mount Album those are the REALLY Expensive. Even getting them on your own can be around $300 without any design services. Design services cost anywhere from $5-$12 per page side. I did the math and a nice Flush Mount album would cost us $500-$600 if we get them professionaly designed. All other album types you can get for a bargain. For flush Mount Albums at a more reasonable price try National Photo Lab. For regular books try Viovio or My Publisher. I got a soft cover book on viovio for my mom for mothers day and OMG the quality was AMAZING! VioVio has amazing reviews for a reason, they totally ROCK! I also got a coupon from retail me not and got free shipping for the little album. I ended up paying $11 TOTAL!!! Now that was a 8X10 16 page soft cover book but you would think I paid a ton more if you see the quality on the pages and even the cover! I'm totally doing the regular albums with VioVio, but I'll do Image Wrap or Leather Bound for our wedding parent albums. Those would come out to less than $70 or so. For our Flush Mount album we'll probably use National Photo Lab or a similar kind of company. In the end we'll spend a lot less by just getting the pictures from a good photographer and designing the albums independently.

That is an insane price...I have found lots of photographers for under 2k. Keep looking around....check out Thomas Paul or fade to black.

Even if you get the cd with all rights you can print the pictures from that and create your own album. At least all the pictures will be retouched
