Printing on Vellum?

Ok we were looking at paper at this store out by us and the man told us that unless we have an laser printer we can't use vellum - and then we checked with a printer (different place) about having them do it -but they say it takes 7-10 days for it to dry?

Is this true - will the vellum smudge if we try to print them ourselves?

Re: Printing on Vellum?

inkjet would sumgde easy due to the material and ink combo...

how much are they chargeing? depending on # of sheets you need to print, it is cost effective to let them do it (besides not trying to smudge the paper)

Re: Printing on Vellum?

They have vellum for ink jet printers in staples. I th ink it's $10 for a pack of 50. They have clear and some colors - all letter size.

I never really had a problem with it - I use the best setting on the print control panel and select a longer drying time. And I don't let the printed pages stack on the tray, I sort of lay them out on the table to let them dry a little longer.

Re: Printing on Vellum?

We made CD's for favors/place cards and printed the names and table # on vellum and wrapped it around. We used an inkjet printer and it worked fine. Though, I did let it dry for a while before touching it (10 min - 20 mins maybe?) but not a week.

Re: Printing on Vellum?

The cost is not the problem if we want to print with black ink they only charge 20$ for 50 invites. We are buying our own paper from this place - so we are deciding whether or not to do the vellum invite or not -

We want them to go out in 2 weeks - we were working with another printer for a month who turned out to be a bomb so we are scrambling to get these out (we want them to go out not that long after our invites go out - and the calligrapher says they are ready)

So if the place does not have the vellum invites in stock we will just go with the other one.

Re: Printing on Vellum?

We just made our invitations last night and had no problem with smudging at all. We bought vellum paper from Michael's and have a normal printer. We used color and also put the stack of paper in the printer and let them stack up on each other. Every once in a while it would pull more than one through which did slighty chang the alignment but that wasn't a problem because we we're cutting the paper after anyway.

I had a problem with my inkjet at home. So I did all of my vellum printing at the office over the weekend when no one was around

Re: Printing on Vellum?

Hmmmm see I am doing an art theme and these invites are like a $1.50 an invite so I don't want to mess them up - it is a sunflower that looks like the ones van gogh does - and we really like them.

But the other non vellum invite is pretty but just doesn't grab us the same way - but the vellum ones are expensive to mess up if they don't come out right - we would have to take them apart too since they have a ribbon holding them together.

Try getting the vellum from myinvitationstation.com - it's precut and it prints on inkjets fine.

Re: Printing on Vellum?

You can also get inkjet vellum on ebay - just make sure the auction reads 'good for inkjet printers'.

Re: Printing on Vellum?

I got velum from Paper access and printed at home on my inkjet, the lines arent a krisp as they would be on a laserprinter but its nothing noticable, I didnt wait 7-10 days for them to dry more like 7-10 minutes and none of htem smudged!

Re: Printing on Vellum?

Thank you girls but I am not looking to buy different vellum since I am already spending 1.50 for the invites (not including the printing so they will already cost me more than 100$ when I finish) and they come with the vellum already attached. I just wanted to know if I could print them or if the laser printing thing was not true -

I spoke to another printer this morning who says that I would have to provide that place with extra vellum so I won't be using that place.

I will just have to take them to this other printer if I decide to use them -

Thanks girls!!!!

Re: Printing on Vellum?

I printed our outer page of our STD's on vellum. I printed with my ink jet. The only way they wouldnt smudge is if you took them out AS SOON as they are done printing and kept them from touching anything for 5 mins. Other than that it was like normal paper.

I have a friend who prints on Vellum on her printer - I'll ask her about it.
