Priscilla of Boston - A Bad Experience to Share :o(
Hello all. I just wanted to share an updated experience with Priscilla of Boston, since I had previously recommended them so highly.... *sighs*
As I was taking photos at my wedding, I lifted the front of my skirt to step up on a curb and noticed a row of pins still in my dress! I decided that given the time, there was nothing to be done, and didn't say anything to the folks around me. I knew if I said anything I'd just get all sad...
In the bridal suite I checked it out. Basically they had never sewn up one of the layers of my underskirt. It shows in a couple of pictures, kind of like my slip was hanging out :o(
My dress was nearly $3000. And I paid over $300 for alterations. (Some of which you can see were never done) They have offered to do the alterations now and clean/perserve my dress for free. Personally I don't think that was enough -- do you? I thought I should at least get the alteration charges refunded. Am I being unreasonable?
Anyhow the lesson to be learned here is this -- just because you are buying at an expensive shop, don't trust that you will get good service. Check every layer of your dress!!!

Definately get your money back for alterations! Did you sign some sort of contract with your dress regarding alterations? They way I see it, you paid them money for a service which they did not provide. THerefore, they owe you that money back. Stand your ground and demand it and speak with managers, etc.

Alter the dress for free after the wedding day? Wow, how great of them. Sorry to hear about your dress, I love Priscilla of Boston dresses. Did you buy it from the boutique in Roslyn? I say you should ask for your money back on alterations, and have it altered, and preserved for free. It doesn't hurt to ask.

Thanks, you have made me feel better. I first tried on the dress in Roslyn, but I bought it in Boston since thats where I live. The final pick up was at the Roslyn store though -- so both places screwed up. The Boston store should have caught it when packing to ship, and the Rosyln store should have caught it when they steamed my dress. Lots of people not paying attention it seems!
I will try writing a letter to their corporate office, and will let you know if they give a fair response.

I had a few bones to pick w/ my bridal store too... my bustle broke as soon as we put it up & had to be re-pinned all day, my zipper broke at my first fitting & they replaced it with an even crappier one, some of my beading under my right arm was damaged during alterations & sloppily repaired. I wasn't going to say anything, but the bustle put me over the edge. I found out today my store burned down while i was away! I guess I'll just have to forget it! You should tell them you want your money back for alterations, did you make any of your payments w/ a credit card? If so have them negotiate for you. Good luck

Velania-So sorry to hear that this happened to you. I would suggest you include copies of the pics you have with the letter you are sending the corporate office as proof. Just in case they want back up. You should get your alteration money back. They didn't do the job you paid them for. Good Luck

I would definetly write them a letter, or better yet bring in the dress and show them. Just so they will be more careful in the future.

I was looking for an update on your dress situation since I have a Priscilla dress also. Did they offer you any kind of refund?

Thanks for all of your support. I hit a dead end with the store manager, I'm going to try to write a letter to the corporate office -- so I expect it will take a while for any progress.

Good luck!! Definitely take this all the way. In addition, I'd write a letter to the BBB. You deserve some type of compensation for all the $$ you paid, a lot more than offering to (a) do what they should've done in the 1st place which was alter the dress properly; & (b) free preservation/storage. For $3300 - preserveration/storage should've been included already anyways!
Keep us posted!

Re: Priscilla of Boston - A Bad Experience to Share :o(
I recently had a similar experience with Priscilla of Boston. I asked them to make alterations to a dress that was too big on me. Not only were the alterations never done but they charged me for them as well. My dress was too big on me during my ceremony. It was awful. I ended up hating a dress that I loved so much and couldn't wait to wear. I did not order one picture from my wedding and have not even been able to look at them. This experience ruined my wedding. I know this sounds extreme but you can't imagine what it feels like to be very uncomfortable in a strapless dress that you feel ugly in at your wedding. I felt like the dress was going to fall down the entire night.
I am trying to find other women who have also had an experience like this with Priscilla of Boston. They were completely unprofessional with me after my wedding when took the dress to them with pictures.
I have decided to take further action with Priscilla of Boston. I believe this happens often and the brides are the one who suffer. They feel like there is nothing they can do about what has happened to them because their wedding is over. I felt the same way but have decided to do something about it. If you read this please email me at [email protected].
