Private Cocktail hour?

Private Cocktail hour?

This is a new one to me--have any of you heard of this? My boss went to a wedding over the weekend out of state where the bridal party and a few other people, like the parents of the couple, had a 'private' cocktail hour while the bulk of the guests were in another room. No, they weren't taking photos, either, they took the formals hours before the ceremony. They went into another room and ate and drank, while the rest of the guests ate and drank somewhere else. My boss didn't know if they had better food or not, but I wouldn't be surprised--why bother then? She said they were a pretty rude couple overall, but that is amazing to me.

A lot of brides and grooms and even the rest of the bridal party will hang out in the bridal suite until the start of the reception so they can make their grand entrance.

I know most catering halls offer to set up the bridal suite with the cocktail hour food, but that's typically because photos are being taken. Sometimes they like to keep the bride & groom separate if they want to do the grand entrance at the reception...but if they did it separately for no reasons like above - that's just not right!!!

But that's not what it was--it was the parents and I think the partners of the bridal party too. It was definitely an 'A' and a 'B' list parties. Besides, I think that's silly, the cocktail hour is part of the reception, IMHO. We went to ours, and I didn't want to get announced, but we got talked into it by the Maitre'D. He was good, that guy.

I think thats weird. i can understand the couple and maybe the parents being in the bridal suite, and then joining the guests, but their own cocktail hour? Thats just weird/rude!

I never heard of that. Just the bridal party, before they are introduced. Pretty insulting if you ask me. What are they too good to eat with their guests?

I've been in weddings where this was done. We took pictures and hung out in the Bridal Suite until the reception started.

Gave us time to relax a little, to touch up make-up and hair, help the bride go to the bathroom. Then we made the 'grand entrance' at the reception.
