Problem w/ make-up artist - need advice (long)

I fell in love with this make-up artist at my trial, so I decided to book him for my wedding (no contract) and asked him if he would apply my make-up for my e-pics. I was supposed to go to his apartment at noon on Sunday, but realized late Saturday night that I did not have his address! I called his cell every 15 mins from 10:45AM to 11:45AM with no answer. After 11:45, I knew that I would not have enough time to get there and still make-it to my shoot, so I started to apply my own make-up. At noon he called me back and said that if he knew I didn't have the address, he would have gladly given it to me. Well, if I knew I did not have his address, I would not have been a nervous wreck Sunday morning!! He did not apologize or anything!!

So the question is, is it unreasonable to expect him to be available even 20 minutes before our appt (running early, calling for directions, etc.) AND would you still work with him at your wedding??

Sorry so long... I just thought I had this all out of the way and now I am at square one again

For me, I would be non-trusting at this point. I learned the hard way on my wedding day that I should have listened to my gut when it came to one of my vendors.

You do have some responsibility when it comes to booking your vendors, you cannot expect them to be all knowing. It is important that you confirm appointment times and such the day before to ensure things like this do not happen in the future. I do not think that the vendor was at fault per se. I do not think that this should impact your dealings with him. Sorry JMHO!

True ---

In my case, I sent and left messages with my vendor 6 weeks before my wedding, took her 3 to get back to me, and I even spoke to her on the phone to confirm the time with her 12 hours before my wedding, and in the end, I spent the morning of my wedding a hysterical mess.

The vendors as well have to have a good level of responsibility when dealing with their clients. We pay their bills and if you have doubts about a particular vendor, you should not think twice about your decision.

well, I don't really think he was at fault here. you should have realized you didn't have his address well before the night before you were supposed to be there. I really don't think he owed you an apology- think of it this way, he waited for you and possibly turned down other business because he had an appointment with you.
It is not his responsibility to be available to you 20min or an hour or whatever before your appointment time. He could have been in the shower or running errands and didn't hear the phone. Now, if you had callled him two weeks ago and never heard back from him that would be a different story, or if you showed up at your appointment time and he wasn't there.
I would keep him, especially since you said you were happy with the trial.

i don' t think that he needed to apologize, but at the same time, i feel like he should have his phone available in case he gets any calls. i think in general, since i'm a person who has my phone attached to me and checks my messages ever so often, i'm baffled when businesspeople don't do that. i would feel more assured if you can reach him via cell 10-15 mins. before an apt.
