I personlly think they're a nice touch, but not necessary either. I guess it depends on your budget or your craftiness if you're going to DIY.
I went to a wedding where ceremony was at RH. The bride's didn't really include parts of the ceremony but did a little bio for each bridal party member and explained how they met that person. It was cute and entertaining while we were waiting for it to start.

honestly, I dont think its neccessary for a RH.
We almost didn't even do it for our church mass, just to save time and $. But ended up doing it solely out of respect for people of other religions.. Some of DHs family is Lutheran [our mass was Catholic] and alot of our guests were Jewish. So we did it out of respect to the people who weren't catholic, so they could follow what was going on.
Its obviously up to you and your FH, but looking at it from the outside- I think youre better off saving the $! It can be pricey & time consuming [took me, DH & 2 BMs DAYS to complete them ]

HTH!

I still don't understand why people think you should do them for a church and not RH. We're getting married at the RH and have several things in the ceremony we would like to explain in more depth. We put a thank you to our guests and family members, we also have our email address for guests to share their photos after the wedding. Programs are not JUST for church ceremony's.

I did them for my wedding at the RH. I was originally going to do a fan program, but the prototype just didn't come out well enough. I did long ones out of card stock. double sided. I thought it was a nice touch and it didn't cost much.

We had them to explain cultural traditions, list bridal party names, thank people, etc. Use plain cardstock and dress up with clip art if you want to keep it simple rather than do layers or fan programs. I did booklet style programs.

we are getting married at the RH, and we are not doing programs.. we feel its a waste.. the ceremony will only be 20 min.. not doing any readings, or unity candle... its just a simple ceremony for us. i honeslty have only been to 1 wedding where they had programs.

I had programs for the ceremony at RH...I made them myself...and I thought it was a cute idea..but I have to be honest not everyone paid attention to them...and I made way to many of them...I had a lot of them left...my advice..make them..but don't spend so much money on them...

We're doing them and I'm very happy we did. They came out great. If you don't want to do them yourself, I highly recommend My Jean M (link below).

We got our programs and ordered our menus from them and they've been absolutely fantastic to deal with. They have a great color selection and the prices are very reasonable.

I am also having a ceremony at my RH and I am doing programs. The staff will hand them out. I think it is a nice keepsake, but more importantly, people will know who is who and also it is a helpful explanation of any wedding traditions that you might have

What exactly goes on a program? Is it a religious thing?
I'm sorry, I've only been to a handful of weddings, and only saw them once, a while ago, and don't remember what was on it. Sorry if this sounds stupid!
Can someone please explain?
I'm Jewish, and I don't think there really is anything in the ceremony that needs to be explained. Are any Jewish brides doing them?
Sorry to crash -- I love reading the '07 boards -- hearing about everything that goes on close to the date, and seeing your beautiful photos!

Re: Programs for ceremony at RH???

It's definitely not a religious thing and people use them in RHs and in churches. It's just an outline of the ceremony and the participants and their relationship to the bride and groom (friend of bride, brother of groom, etc). It also includes the readings if there are any and also the music selections.

Hey you,

Wow time is getting near. You only need them for ceremony. It is a nice keepsake I did them for my ceremony at church. Guest really don't need them for RH like the guess what will happen next it will be a nice surprise. Most people who go to weddings know what to expect. Don't drive yourself crazy doing the things that you don't need to do unless you absolutely want to.

Why? I don't understand this. A ceremony is a ceremony whether it's in a church or not.

I skipped them, basically because I ran out of time - there were other things I really wanted to make and the programs were an 'if I get to it' item

We are having a small ceremony at our reception hall and I think the program would probably have only been one page anyway.
