We're having a small and short ceremony, with most people that are coming to the wedding in the ceremony. Do you think programs are necessary?

Nothing is a requirement, aside from the legal elements of officient and two witnesses.

Not necessary but they are a nice touch if you have the time/money.

This is just my opinion, but I do, since it is the ceremony, the actual event of the marriage, and I feel they are necessary. I know some that have decided to skip this though.

No I don't think you need it. Unless you feel like being creative and doing something different, then i'd say go for it

I'm not doing it.. I am also having a short ceremony. Although they are a very nice touch, I feel they arent necessary.
Just an extra thing for ppl to carry, leave around or throw out when they get home. I havent been to a weddign where I got one and haven't tohught the wedding was missing something. At the end of the day, if it's soemthing you have to have, then go for it!!

I don't think they're necessary. We had programs b/c we're an interfaith couple who essentially had a Jewish ceremony. The program explained some of the Jewish traditions since we had a bunch of non-Jewish guests.

I don't think they're necessary UNLESS there is some religious or cultural ritual that you are doing that you absolutely WANT to explain to the guests.
That said, we're doing them in the continuing tradition of 'if my sister did it, I'm not, and if she didn't I am'.

I don't think they are needed at all. Most of my guests no each other and we are having a short ceremony. I really don't want to be bothered with another thing that isn't needed.

we also had a small and short ceremony, so I opted not to do programs.

Re: programs...necessary??
i guess it all depends on how enthusiastic i get. i just have never taken home a program and kept it. seems like a waste of paper. any suggestions to spice up a program to make it worth doing?

Not necessary at all. IMO I think it's a waste. Most of the people just throw it out anyway.
