Proper etiquette....cashing checks...

Wedding was 19 days ago. We didn't go on a honeymoon but I had to return to my two jobs 2 days later and he had to return to his job at the same time. He works over nights and by the time I get home he has already left. I see him every Mon-fri sleeping as I get up for work. We finally see each other on Fridays after 6. The last last two saturdays we have been busy and unable to get to the bank bf 12 pm and when we did try to go there was a problem with the names on the checks. So we are unable to cash the ones that say Mr. And Mrs. hislastname.
We are making it our priority to go on Saturday morning so we can deposit all of them. (exactly 3 weeks)

How long is too long to wait to cash a check? What is the Max amount of weeks that's 'ok' to wait?
I think 4 weeks max after that, hey as annoying as it is, they can hold on to their money longer
I was told its not proper etiquette to hold on to checks for so long...

A little help..

SIDENOTE: I had someone email me almost a year after their wedding telling me they found my check and if they can deposit it? which explains why i never got a thank you card!

I don't think there's any 'etiquette' involved in cashing checks. I just wouldn't want to wait much longer than a month because you don't want your family/friends to forget to leave enough money in their accounts. But really, they should expect it to take a while because you've had a lot of stress on your plate these last few months and now you're just coming back to real life. I imagine you're absolutely fine waiting a couple more weeks if necessary :)

As long as you dont wait too long I think you should be fine. People will understand that you have to get a joint account or name changes on your account.

Totally agree!! I hate when I forget about check I wrote out as a wedding gift and all of a sudden money is missing, and forgot to transfer money or just forgot and now there is money missing, ok well my fault.

But I feel that if its within the month, its ok. Unfortunetly life does get in the away, even simple things like going to the bank gets difficult.

I felt funny doing it right away, but i guess i shouldve done that.

I think the sooner the better for your guest.

I think you should be fine right now. However, I wouldn't wait too much longer. Just in case people forget and don't have enough money in their account. I'm sure it won't happen because they wrote it out expecting it to be gone but just in case.

ASAP

My best friend gave us her wedding gift early, and three days later asked when we planned on depositing it. People DO check up (no pun intended) and want to make sure they have money in the account.
