P*ssed off at Hotel Block at Danford's

We blocked the hotel a couple of weeks ago and went out to see it since we wanted to have our rehearsal dinner there as well. Everything was fine, till I get a call from one of the BM's regarding a friend that tried to book a room for 1 night (Saturday) and was told there was a 2 day minimum. WHAT???? Not only were we not told about this, its nowhere in the contract.
I called and spoke to the manager today and basically she said she would be happy to cancel our block if that's what we decided to do. And that this is their strict policy during the summer months. I understand that that's their policy during the summer, but we should have been informed before finding out like this!!!!!

Wow! That's not right!!! There are other hotels closer to your venue. Have you thought about looking somewhere else?

I agree. They should have mentioned that to you when you blocked the rooms. Then you wouldn't have wasted your time with them.

We blocked at the Marriot. They are giving our guests a better rate on their rooms since FMIL is having the RD there.

We also checked out the Sheridan. They will do something similar.

If you do this, tell them while your discussing the room block and hopefully they will give you a better rate.

Good luck

wow i cant believe they didnt tell you - it is kind of local knowledge that they require 2 nights during the summer and for holidays - but being from out of town someone definately should have told you - i would call back and speak with the group reservation manager ( it may take a day or two for her to get back to you ) but if you tell her what is going on maybe she can do something - like make an exception. i think it is worth a try if you really want to use them - if not check out my other post about hotels in the area it has links to all the other websites and phone numbers and prices

i am sorry you are having such a problem with them

That is horrible!! Definately call the manager. I don't know who the manager is, but try to speak to that person and explain that this is no where in your contract. I don't see how they can't honor the contract.

I spoke to Nicole who I believe is the sales and catering manager. What sucks is that we are having a lot of out of town guests coming in early Thursday and will be staying 3 nights, since we are doing are rehearsal dinner on Thursday night. I'm guessing that we'll have 15-20 guests staying at 3 nights, but will need about 5-7 rooms for 1 night. So Danfords is getting 15 rooms booked for Thursday that they probably will have had empty. I know that they really don't care what we do, b/c they will be booked labor day weekend regardless. I'm just pissed that the 5-7 guests who will just be attending the wedding, won't be able to stay at the hotel and will have to find (or more accurately I will find) another option nearby that will allow them to book just Saturday night.
We like the idea of having everyone stay in the same place but there is no way I would expect guests to stay an extra night if they didn't have to.
So basically this sucks!! Sorry for the long vent.

Speak to Cynthia - she is the director of catering. I can tell you this - the communication skills @ Danford's is definitely lacking.

Good luck.

wc0143,

Tell me about it!!! Nicole told me that it was a strict policty of theirs about the 2 nights. You'd think they would put it in their contract or on their website.
Just another thing to be p*ssed off by. I booked the suite on Friday night before my wedding so that all the girls and I could get ready comfortably etc. When we went to visit I talked to guests that told me Friday nights the disco is open till 4am which basically makes the room shake. You'd think the reservation people would have told me, considering I was planning on stay there the night before MY WEDDING. UGH!!!

I'll give Cynthia a call tomorrow.
