Hey - I figured I'd throw this one out there - does anyone know of any PT weekend jobs available?
As much as I don't want to do it, I think I need to make some extra $$ for the wedding!
Thanks in advance!

A NYC Cabby & A limo driver are two totaly different gigs. Cabbys have no idea who they are picking up. Limo drivers working for limo companies know their clients. You have in your car. You have to pick them up at their house & drop them off later. It's safe.

I drive a limo. You need a TLC ( Taxi & Limousine Commission) license. It's a bit of a pain in the a$$ to get, well worth it once you have it. You need to go to consumer affiars to get the application. You need to take a drug test, get a mug shot & get fingerprinted. Once you pass the backround check you get your license. It costs a couple hundred bucks, you'll make that back your first night out driving. Last Saturday night I made $400.00. It seems to me as a female I get better tips than the guys. The week before I drove a bachelor party in NYC. I came home with $600.00. If you have your TLC & a clean license, limo companys have work. It's well worth looking into.

Holy cow!! That sounds like something totally up my alley. I love driving in general and serve as a taxi to all my non-car holding friends! But is it SAFE? I am worried about getting mugged or something..I hear cabbies in NYC getting guns pointed at them, robbed, etc and I get a little nervous about going this route.

I've been thinking of anything to avoid retail - I was thinking about dog walking / nanny on the weekends? Or waitressing one night a week or something . . . FH says the time I'll spend doing any of these things won't be worth the $. Good thing I just got my Master's degree. . . to be a part time dog walker. ugh.
I'm sorry, I know it's not funny and it s*cks! FH keeps telling me the same thing about getting a part time job. I think I'd just feel better if I made the effort to get a 2nd job. I don't make as much as he does and I want to contribute equally but I'm struggling to keep pace and now with the holidays around the corner. I wouldn't mind waitressing, at least you'd get good tips- hopefully!
I know!! It's hysterical, really. I was thinking maybe I could find a semi-wealthy family to nanny for on the weekends while the mom is at the gym or getting her spa treatments or something. I have my MA in Art History, so maybe I could teach them about art and how to speak French of something.

I will say...I've been a nanny and had a really bad experience. They basically treated me as an invisible slave. BUT. The pay was excellent!

Another idea is maybe an Academic Tutor? I tried this way back when I finished grad school. I answered a few Craigslist ads and tutor rates were anywhere from like $25 an hour to $100/hr, or project based.
There is a real demand for tutoring Kindergarten - 8th graders in Math/Science subjects or teaching Piano Lessons. Also foreign language is good, I used to tutor elementary French (I majored in it) and also basic Piano.
My PT job right now is doing refinance real estate closings, its great if you are a Notary Public. I get $150 per closing (attorney assisted closing) and I did about 50 over the months of July/August which yielded much of my wedding budget. Once I get my condo rented out, I hope to have an additional $1200 in my budget per month.
