we already booked our photographer, but now I'm regretting moving so fast. Is ANYONE not getting thank you photo's in their package, or have exp. with a photographer who says instead of taking black and white they'd like to take all color and turn some into black and white if you want? If anyone has heard stories or has experience with Duval studios in wantagh, please post, thanks.

That is true you cant turn any color photo into black and white, however it doesnt look as great as if you used black and white film..

I know that, right? I don't know why he didn't seem to keen on taking black and whites, and since that's something important to me, I don't know why I jumped into it! Definitely a lesson in taking your time when booking vendors. He had come recommended and I was anxious to book. boo.

My thoughts
There is no reason why he is not using B&W film for some of your photos. Also, thank you photos are almost universally thrown into all deals. I do not want to send them to many people, only very close family and friends so I swamped them for some additional 5x7s.
How much have you put down so far? You need to speak with your photographer and express your concerns. I am sure he can work with you to make you feel you made the best decision.

The reason why he probably wanted to do that was that it is very difficult for one photographer to take both pictures, so he would have to go from roll to roll...b&w and then color..Is he an independant or a studio? if it is a studio i would tell them you WANT b&w film not color turned into it.. and so you will need a b&w photographer there also..this is great for candid shots too..tell them you do not want to spend an arm and a leg for the second photgrapher and if they cant accomodate your needs you want your deposit back, a reputible place will do so..

You should definitely look into this further - if you want photos taken in B&W, you should arrange for that. We did not want any taken in B&W, so the photographer mentioned that we could have a few turned into B&W if we like later. However, if we did want B&W, we would have to have gotten a second photographer to do this.

Me too :)
My photographer is taking all color & converting some to B&W -- ad I'm not getting any Thank You and I'm okay with everything.
My photographer is a 'Master Photographer,' which is a totle a photographer gets when they have earned a certain # of awards & taught photography & practiced for a long time. There's only 20 of them in Suffolk County. Anyway - my photographer works alone & I told her we want a mix of B&W and color and that we want it photojournalist style. She's planning to shoot all in color 35mm -- beacuse that's best for taking action shots - vs. those more bulky cameras that take the formal square pictures. Also, she's expensive - so I'm just getting the basics w/o thank you card photos. Instead I'm using an online service for about .99 which takes a scanned image and uses it on either a postcard or the cover of a folded card.
I've heard about the B&W film shots looking better than the coverted ones -- but I've never seen two side-by-side to compare. I think I might speak with my photographer & ask to see samples of each and then decide whether it's a big deal. I do know that B&W film can be converted to Sepia-toned prints (the brown-ish & white photos) - but color film converted to B&W can't.
Hope that helps.

We are no tusing Duval but we are not getting thank you photos. I wasn't sure if we needed them and figured if I changed my mind I could order them later.
