Publishing Ladies, where are you?

I was just looking at the thread about what we all do and noticed that a bunch of us are in publishing. I am at Penguin Group USA. Where are you ladies?

I'm at T&F Informa (it's a number of brands - Marcel Dekker, Routledge, Parthenon, CRC Press, etc). Was Taylor and Francis but then we merged with Informa.

Ideally I'd like to be an editorial assistant at a REAL publishing house. I'd like to get into page layout a little or even PR. I'm open to anything and more than willing to work my heiney off to learn everything.

hey all - i just saw this post :) I'm also in Publishing, Manging Ed at Random House.

I agree w/ Juliet - it's a bit stifling!!! It doesn't always suck, but there are times when I'm like 'and why the hell am I here again?!' I really wish I could be on the other end of publishing, and actually be WRITING the books, and not just proofreading them

And I don't knwo about the rest of your companies, but I feel like RH alwasy has a TON of positions open, but THEY NEVER HIRE ANYONE!!!! Very frustrating when you've applied for numerous internal positions only to be told time and time again 'sorry.....' An I'm convinced that our pay scale is the LOWEST of any industry too - must be a Publishing standard or something!

Yes! The money is horrible. It is like they still think that publishing is filled with trust fund babies from seven sisters colleges. Get real!

Another publishing lady here...

I work for a journal that is published by the University of Chicago Press (the editorial office is in NY). My title is 'manuscript editor.' In reality, I am a book review editor.

It can be boring at times but, for the most part, I like my job.

I used to work for Prentice Hall in NJ and HATED it. Most of the people in the division I worked for were awful.

i work for john wiley & sons. we publish the frommer's guides, and the for dummies series, and numerous boring textbooks. i do copyright registrations and contract entry. it's really boring imo. i'd rather be on the production end of things. we'll see what happens. we always have a million jobs open. check wiley.com for listings.
