Do you have any deep cracks? Has she bitten you at all?

Re: Pumping troubles
no, unfortunately, it's coming from 'inside' - the nipple is totally intact. I was actually only nursing twice a day, the remainder of the time pumping, for about the last 3 months, and in the last month only pumping. (When I changed her nipples to the level 2, I guess she got so used to the milk coming out so easily, she rejected the breast right after that!)

Re: Pumping troubles
Sorry I was not on the other day..I just sent you a FM...you are FINE...it is normal.
Pinkish milk is sometimes caused by dried blood in the milk ducts and is referred to as 'rusty pipe syndrome.' Small amounts of blood in human milk are not harmful to the newborn, so there is no need to discard the milk or discontinue breastfeeding.
I got this from the LLL site
Also a hint for moms to be: NEVER use the stage 2 nipples for a newborn....it can really hurt your bfing relationship. NO nipple on a bottle is 'like' your nipple and the 'quick' of the stage 2 is nothing like a real breast.
Good for you for continuing to pump..I did it for 1 year so if you need anything please let me know.

Michele, when would you recommend starting the stage 2 nipple?

Re: Pumping troubles
If you are breastfeeding there is no need to move to stage 2 nipples...you want the flow to remain similar to your breast's milk flow...which will never be quick. Unless your child is really straining to suck a stage 2 nipple might not even be necessary. Now, I pumped full-time so Molly was always on a bottle...she went to stage 2 nipples at 10 months. But again, I was not actually nursing.

Re: Pumping troubles
Oh, how i wish I knew that before hand! I am such an IDIOT!! When Angela was 5 months, my girlfriend said something about stage 2 nipples, I didn't even know what they were - and she was like, oh, yeah, after 3 months they go to stage 2 nipples. So, I just went out and bought them. I so wish I would have done research on it first, I miss breastfeeding her so much. I thought I could go a year pumping too, but I am thinking now I might stop soon. Her demand is exceeding my supply, and within about a month, I'll have exhausted my frozen milk supply too. I know there are things you can do to increase your milk supply - but honestly, even though I feel very selfish, I just feel like I am starting to resent doing it, and I don't want to feel like that. It felt more worth it when I was nursing her twice a day, now I just feel like a milk factory.

Re: Pumping troubles
You do NOT have to quit pumping...I can help your supply increase and provide as much support as you need. It is worth it....I kept my goals short and I made sure I kept telling myself that Molly is only little for a short time and I can give this gift to her. What is your current pumping schedule? Are you dieting? If so that can hurt your supply. I used Feenugeek (it is an herb) that increases your supply. Are you drinking enough water? I was able to pump enough milk without any supplement. Also, a professional LC may be able to get your baby to re-latch...it is VERY possible. It didn't work for me but that does NOT mean it will not work for you!! Don't give up!!! I am here to help you thru.
