Pumping/Milk Supply

Pumping/Milk Supply

How do I increase the amount of milk, the ounces, I pump at each session? Caiden eats 3 oz. at each feeding (bottle), and I think he's starting to eat more. But each time I pump, I can get 3 oz, 2 oz, or 1 oz. Usually it's 2 oz., but it has been 1 oz. Is there anything I can do to increase the amount? I can't alter my schedule during the day though, only after work and at night.

Here's my schedule, maybe someone can help...

5:30-5:45am
Breastfeed - 1 side (Not pumping other side)

Drop Caiden off at Daycare
7:30-7:45am
Breastfeed - other side (Not pumping other side)

During work
10:30am - Pumping both sides

Lunchtime
12:30pm
Breastfeed - 1 side (Not pumping other side)

During work
2:30pm - Pumping both sides

After work
Breastfeed at 4:30pm or when I get him home

I hope there's something I can do. Can anyone help?

I think I would pump both after the feedings for 10 minutes when you can fit it in. That is what my LC said to do so the brain thinks there is another baby settling in to feed and will create more.

Be sure to drink water while you are pumping

I am having a similiar problem, My right boob produces half the milk my left boob does. I've tried to pump longer on the right to get my body to produce more milk but it doesn't seem to be helping!

Pump while feeding Melissa. You need to increase the amount your body is producing and pumping the non-feeding side can do that.
Also, eat oatmeal once a day= that helps your supply.
You can also start taking Fenugeek (herb) 2 tablets, 3X a day.

This is all about supply and demand so you must pump more or bf more often. Add a 15 minute pumping session very early in the morning, when your body has the most of the hormones. I KNOW this stinks, but it will help A LOT.

I produce less on my right side also- because I am right handed. From what I have read that is very common and extra pumping doesn't really change that.

There is also something called Power Pumping (I read about it on Pumping Moms on Yahoo board)
Double Pump for 20 minutes, wait 20 minutes and then pump again. In the beginning you might not see a difference but after a few days you will have an increase in supply and then you can stop the practice. I get raves on the other board.

Re: Pumping/Milk Supply

good advice michele - yes melissa if you can add a pumping session before the morning feed sometime, I think you'll get a lot then. That is when there is the most milk. And by the time he gets up you should be ready to feed again. You have to increase the amount you are pumping for sure. Or the amount of time nursing, though I know that is impossible cause you are back at work.

Good luck, and let us know how you are doing.
