Yeah FH already said as soon as we get a house were going to get one. I already have one. But his landlord won't allow any dogs.

Just make sure you don't get one from a pet store... you'll wind up with a very sick puppy . Cooper was so sick when we got him and we spent sooooo much money bringing him back to good health. It was so worth it and we say we rescued him, but just know the amount of money that could potentially be involved

Re: Puppy
I have always adopted my dogs but FH wants a pure breed. We have only seen them at the pet stores. I have been to north shore but they say they never really get pure breeds.

You can locate a breeder, it can be costly, but in the long run, less expensive. You can even get a puppy from another state flown to you, a friend of ours did that. Cooper is pure but like I said he was so sick when we got him (we of course didn't know this at the time, but realized 2 days later when we were scrambling thru a snow storm to get him to a vet... ). Don't be fooled either by the pet stores telling you that they'll pay for your first vet visit... Chances are, that your first vet visit will be the least expensive one. You'd be shocked at how much we spent the first year we had Cooper.
Don't get me wrong, I know people who've gotten their dogs from pet stores and they were perfectly fine, but that's only because their puppy was only in the store for a short period of time. Look at it this way... a pet store is like a kindergarten classroom, one kid gets sick they all get sick and in a pet store, they're not going to get the proper medical attention. I hate to sound like an advocate, but I think pet stores are terrible places.
Plant this seed in your FH's mind too.... a lot of people say that pure breds aren't good dogs to have because they too have a lot of medical problems because breeders don't follow regulations mandated by law about how often they can breed in one year.... there's a lot of inbreeding, so be careful!

Yeah we know about how the pet stores are. He wants to get it from a breeder but there so expensive. I love the pure breeds but i think alot of them have alot of medical problems also. If you know of any good breeders let me know. Maybe I'll suprise him and get him one as a wedding present!!

Brutus was sick too! Actually they told us that he was sick from the beginning and they wanted us to wait a week and see if he got better - but FH and i fell in love and we signed all these waivers and took him against their advice - i never regretted it for a second BUT it was a tough beginning - he had kennel cough FOREVER and his stomach is still REALLY sensitive!
but FH wanted a pure bred too and the breeders are too expensive
good luck though - getting Brutus was the best thing we ever did!

Re: Puppy
My puppy was from a pet store. My ex's friend got him and then didn't want him, so I took him. Luckily, he has had no major health problems..just a little acid reflux sometimes!!
It's amazing how much that dog has opened up my heart

Re: Puppy
We got our puppy from a pet store over in Hicksville. We have had no problems with him so far (knock on wood), and he was soooo much cheaper than going throught a breeder. FM me if you would like details. GOOD LUCK!!

Re: Puppy
I think I would have 10 puppies if I could!! I got my chihuahua from a pet store in Selden, although my other 4 are all mutts/abandoned doggies! One of them turns 16 in October!!!
