puppy question (clearly NWR)

puppy question (clearly NWR)

we just took her home yesterday and we bought a little cage area for her where she has her bed, her crib, her bowls, her wee wee pad, it's a prettty nice set up. The problem is every time we leave here in there she screams bloody murder. She's barking and howling. Is this going to stop??

AWWW Yes she will stop and I know that its prob so hard for you. Is it a crate or a pen? I used to have a pen for petunia and thankfully I did because she would tear up the house...LOL Plus it is safer for the puppy so you are doing the right thing

Yes it will stop. I remember when I was younger and we got my dog she did the same thing. Give it a few days. It will eventually stop even though it is hard to listen to.

It's a pen, her crate is in the pen and she has some toys and we even just fed her! She's not eating she just doesn't want to be in the pen. We let her run free for a little bit and when we do that she's fine but the second we put her back in the pen she starts yelping, and it's very high pitched!

Yes My puppy came home monday and thats all she does.

I live in an apartment so at night i wanted to be respectful. So the other night we put her in the bedroom (in her crate ofcourse) and shes been fine. She barely cries bc shes with me in the bedroom and we sleep w the tv on so it helps

if u dont want her/him in ur room, put a radio on next to the cage/crate.

That's what we had. She will get used to it. She prob just wants to be around you. I say put her in and take her out in increments to get her used to it. Definitely leave her in there to sleep. YAY OLIVE IS HOME!!! I expect a lot of pictures!

Are you leaving her in the pen for any particular reason? My FSIL recently got a puppy and they only put her in the pen when they weren't home or when she was bad. Can you leave her out while you're home and just hanging out?

Thanks for the advice! I'm scared to take her out because every time I put her back in she gets the same way. I want to leave her in there to show her we won't cave. Is that a bad idea? I'll take pictures when she learns to stand still, I definitely got the ADHD dog!

We're leaving her in the pen because we don't want her to hurt herself in the house, there's lots of wires and stuff. But we also want her used to the pen. All the puppy training books said it's not good to give the puppy too much room to roam free just yet, eventually we'll let her.

No I don't think it's a bad idea. The only concern is that she did just come into a new environment so she still might be scared and wants reassurance. But you are right she does need to learn that you wont cave

It ***** but you have to be firm and have routine, bc thats the only way shell learn.

When she was purchased was she in a pen with other puppies? a room with a bunch of dogs and people coming in and out? IF thats the case this is a huge change - now the only things she sees are you and FH and ofcourse shes scared and doesnt want to eat much. My Emma isnt pooping much, im lucky of i get a tootsie roll once a day!

Give it time and dont rip your hair out - youll need it in september!

Re: puppy question (clearly NWR)

they alwaaaays cry for the first few days. its so annoying, but its because their scared. i kept my puppy in the cage only at night for sleeping and it used to drive me crazy when i tried to sleep. it sounds a lil harsh but i read online to make a really loud noise when she cries so she associates her crying with that noise and she'll stop. it worked for me.

she just has to get use to it! i have a boxer and she would do the same. try guving her a treat when you leave and come home, thats what i did and never gave us a problem. good luck

Re: puppy question (clearly NWR)

She's not used to being alone... dogs are pack animals by nature and like to feel part of the group. She will get used to it, but I suggest that at night when you and your FH go to sleep, pull the crate (not the pen) into your bedroom so that she feels like part of the pack at night (just being in the room like that will help her).

GOOD LUCK!!!

Yes, she was in a large crate with her litter but she was never in the area where they show the puppies because we already purchased her so they didn't leave her out. She is pooping A LOT. I can't believe such a large amount of poop comes out of something so little. Post a pic of emma!

Re: puppy question (clearly NWR)

buddy use to cry all the time when he was in his crate, I used a hollow bone and stuffed cheese, peanut butter or wet dog food in it and when we put him in there I would put the bone in and he would start trying to get the food out and it helped him a lot cause it was like getting a reward for being in there. I hope that helps.

thanks kim! It's not the crying that bothers me it's the high pitched barking, I just hope this is her being nervous in her new envt and not going to be an everyday occurrence. FH just turned on the vacuum and she's going NUTS

Re: puppy question (clearly NWR)

thanks for all your responses, I really appreciate it. All of you are saying your puppy cried when they first came home. What she's doing is not really crying it's high pitched barking...continuously! I think it's been going on for over a half an hour now. Is that normal?
