puppy question (clearly NWR)

Original post by MikeandJess

we just took her home yesterday and we bought a little cage area for her where she has her bed, her crib, her bowls, her wee wee pad, it's a prettty nice set up. The problem is every time we leave here in there she screams bloody murder. She's barking and howling. Is this going to stop??

I had read somewhere too that if you put a clock in there that ticks it reminds them of the heartbeat of their mother? Did anyone ever hear of this??

thanks for all your responses, I really appreciate it. All of you are saying your puppy cried when they first came home. What she's doing is not really crying it's high pitched barking...continuously! I think it's been going on for over a half an hour now. Is that normal?

yea as a puppy their crying sounds like high pitched barking. it'll pass.

when our dog was a puppy, the breeder told my mom to wear an old t-shrt around the house so it smelled like her and then when they crated the dog t night- to put the tshirt in the crate w/ her so she has your scent- sounds weird but it worked

no actually they told us this when we bought her. I gave them an old t-shirt of mine and they put it in her crate at night and now she's very comfortable with me. But I thought it was the reverse when she was here, I thought I need to put something in her crate that smelled like the place we bought her

unfortunately you have to ignore her..if you cave and let her out..she'll learn that barking will always solve the problem...so you should not let her out until she stops barking..and don't worry jess..she will stop!

Yes My puppy came home monday and thats all she does.

I live in an apartment so at night i wanted to be respectful. So the other night we put her in the bedroom (in her crate ofcourse) and shes been fine. She barely cries bc shes with me in the bedroom and we sleep w the tv on so it helps

if u dont want her/him in ur room, put a radio on next to the cage/crate.

that seems to work! we did the same thing!
