Putting in Contact Lenses??

I've worn glasses my whole life and I don't want to wear them on my wedding day. So, I got contacts a few weeks ago and I just tried practicing putting them in to no avail. Does anyone have any tips for putting in contacts? I just can't imagine havivng to wear glasses on my wedding day

ETA: So now I can get the contact lense in my eye but it's not adhering to my pupil! It's just floating around on the white part (ewww). I practiced last night and I was able to put it in my left eye on the second try but it was floating all around the place. When I tried sliding it over my pupil with my finger, my eye would close

FYI I'm using rigid gas permeable lenses, not soft contact lense. Maybe there's a difference in putting them in between the two??

OK, I am with you here!!!. I just got them 2-days ago. I never wore glasses, but my eyes starting getting a little worse from the computer all day, etc.. so I got them. I was told so many different things on how to do this and I have learned that you just come up with your own method.

I found best way is, look in a mirror, hold your bottom lid down, look straight ahead and put that sucker on. It took me about 10 min's the first day and today it only took about 5. It get's better, but believe me it's very frustrating and you just have to focus on looking straight and doing it.

well.. this is my routine... I acutally have very dry eyes, so in the morning i use visine drops before putting in my contacts.
I take out the contact from the solution and put it in my left hand, clean them again with solution and place the contact on my left index finger. I do my right eye first. I pull down my lower lid with my left middle finger, and raise the upper lid with my right hand. I look up and place the L index finger into the eye... then repeat the same steps on the Left side.

i dunno even how to describe it, ive been wearing contact lenses since 7th grade, and now i can even pop them in my eye on a red traffic light if i had too... ... try wearing them atleast 1-2 weeks before ur wedding so they 'set in' and feel natural and comfortable for you ...

I don't think 1-2 weeks would be enough time for me.....that's why I'm starting from NOW! lol

So you're in the same boat as me!! My problem is my upper lid....once my finger gets close to my eye, it shuts! Frustrating can't even begin to describe how I was feeling last night!

When I first started I used my right hand to hold both of my lids open, then just popped it in with my left index finger.

Another good tip is, make sure that the finger that is holding the contact lens is dry. Sometimes when you mix the lens in solution , and put it on your wet finger, it sticks to your finger. I wipe my finger on a towel, then put the lens on it. I hope that makes sense!

Same thing happens to me, that is why I tried the other way and just pulled down my lower lid. My eye lashes hit it about 20 times before I am able to get it close to my eye
took me 5 min's this morning in the right eye and 1/2 hour in the other

It took me FOREVER to learn how to put in contact lenses.

First of all, make sure your hands are clean. My eyes are sensitive and for the longest time, my eyes would burn. It was from the lotion and moisturizing soap I was using. Even when you wash your hands 'well', sometimes the lotion would still be there.

Then when you fail a bunch of times, the contact lens and/or your hand might get a tiny piece of dust on it so after you finally get the contact lens in, it will hurt.

This is probably very common sense to many but it took me a while to figure this out.

Try not to be scared of the contact lens. Lay the lens gently on your eye instead of poking it in your eye. Use one hand to keep your eyes open and the other to lay it softly on your eye.

I hold the upper lid open with my index finger and pull the bottom lid down with the middle finger (so those two fingers form a V shape).

Then with the contact at the very tip of my other index finger, I just try to touch the contact lens to my eye and let it adhere itself........it sort of feels like the eye is sucking the contact onto itself.

Most important thing is to try to relax your eye first. Do a deep breathing exercise, think of something calming, and don't look directly at the finger/lens coming towards your eye.

Sort of stare diffusely past it---like you're spacing out.

I am only practicing on the weekends, but it takes me up to 40 mins for one eye I just can not get it in It sticks to my finger or I close my eye right before I am ready to put it in. It is A LOT of frustration My friends who wear contacts all the time make fun of me, they think I am creating a problem out of nothing & just complaning. BUT I AM NOT.... I JUST CAN NOT GET THE DAMN LENSES IN

here is my suggestion
do what i did. I went back to the eye place and i said ' i cant get these in' and they sat with me for about a half hour and tried all different ways until we figured it out

i had to do it like that bc i was so scared it would get stuck IN my eye so i needed them there tohelp me get it out if need be

now its years later - and i only wear them for special occasions but i just pop them in

When I first got my contacts in 8th grade, I ahd to go to the doctors 3 times before i could even get them in. And then when I was finally able to bring them hme, I would wear them about once a week cus I still was not used to getting them in. After a couple of months I got used to it and started wearing them everyday. Just ry putting them in once a day and wearing them for like a couple of hours. Eventually you will get used to it! If I can wear them- anyone can!!!

BTW- when I put them in I have to hold my upper lid with my middle finger on one and and the lower with the middle finger on the other hand and have the lens in my index finger. and I pop it in. Its so hard to get the first few times- but you will!

Same thing happened to me when I first got mine. It took forever for me to get them in and by the time I did, my eyes were so red with all the trying.

I actually have very dry eyes, so I always drop visine into my eyes or something similar.

I usually only pull down my lower lid and pop it in there with the contact on my right index finger. I also always am near the mirror so I can see exactly what I'm doing.

It will get easier with time.

The guy at the optical store sat with me for TWO HOURS when I got them!!! I don't think he could help me any more than he did!!
