Q from MOH!

Q from MOH!

My friend is the MOH in another wedding & wants to know how much she should spend on the wedding gift for the couple.
She's in a PhD program, so she's not making much money right now & already has put in a lot of money for the other wedding-related things (from the heart, of course )

So, as a student, should she be spending more than $150 on the couple's gift?
She'd also love to hear any suggestions you girls might have for meaningful, special gifts!

Thanks!

I was in my friends wedding party, and being in the party I heard that you always give a little more. I know that we gave $500 for the wedding. Her wedding was also at Tavern on the Green in Central Park, so we wanted to cover the plates.

Re: Q from MOH!

I would never want a friend to go into debt because of my wedding.
My SIL will be in the same situation and I asked her to be in my wedding not for the gift but because I love her and she is such a special part of our relationship- I would be upset if she gave too much because I know she can't afford to.

I am a big believer in giving what you can. This works both ways-if one is fortunate and well off financially and close to the bride and groom, then a big gift is very nice. But many of my friends of whom some are in the BP simply don't have the $ to give, and FH and I are fine with whatever they do give. I want these people at and in my wedding because they are important to me and FH-this has nothing to do with the knid of gift they can give. However, if someone does have the money and for whatever reason chooses to give a small gift-then I would be upset. JMO.

As with everything, your friend should give what she can afford and what she feels is appropriate.

Normally, I'd expect BP members to give less since they are already paying quite a bit of money for wedding-related things.

I'm personally inclined to give more, but that's only b/c I'm usually very close to the couple if I'm in the wedding party... However, we should ONLY do what we can afford.

In this case, I'd give a nice gift off the registry or $150 if that's what she can afford.

i dont think there is a right or wrong answer for this. Its a gift. She should spend what she feels is appropriate and she can afford. If she can only afford $50 then I don't think anyone would mind. If she can afford $400- then great for the couple!! :)

Thanks girls :) Yeah, she actually had her original # at $500, b/c she's very close to the couple & she's been an amazing MOH all around. But we were talking about it, and she really, really will not have money like that any time soon. She just wants to make sure whatever she gets/gives- that it's very special!

Thanks for the input
