Re: Q NWR
We are staying on LI. We have looked at the possibilty of moving out of state - but for all the pro's we come up with, we find just as many cons.
We both love our jobs here, and all of our family is here (except for my sister, who I really dont get along with anyway) so if we move we will be all alone!
We decided we would rather have a small house here than a large home elsewhere if we had no family to share it with.

Re: Q NWR
we might HAVE to leave for a few years depending on which medical/vet school FH gets accepted to-- but we will come DIRECTLY home as soon as he is done...
i love long island, i was born here and i will die here, it's my favorite place in the world. i don't even like leaving for too long to go on vaca.

We both want to move after the wedding and have discussed around Pittsburgh or somewhere in PA. As much as I will miss friends and family, it's just too expensive here

Yes ~ it is soo discouraging... how much $$ things cost...plus FH is depressed lately with his business (a couple of the towns have really kind of screwed him over this season to put it mildly that it could possibly put him out of business...)
+ FH alot of his friends are leaving NY too... when we first met he said he would NEVER leave NY then I saw him on the internet last night and we were looking at houses for a cheaper house that we have double the space we have now....these are just thoughts & probably would never happen...
I don't have too much family here (born and raised on LI) but I have a lot of friends that I would go crazy without...so say some prayers that things get better for us...even though I probably could use a change and less hustle bustle...

FH and I were looking at real estate around Pittsburgh and you could get a gorgeous 3 br house for 250,000! That's insane! FH went to Penn State, so he's got some good friends in PA so he has no problem moving there. My brother and my sister are both looking for houses on LI with their wife and husband and are finding it very difficult.

Re: Q NWR
we might have to move to PA or upstate NY...we'd rather pay 350k for a brand new house than 350 k for a older smaller house in not such a nice area here on LI....

My FH and I grew up on Long Island and currently live in Waterbury, CT. I have to say that the price of living on LI is just outrageous! It's so overcrowded and traffic is he*l! Moving off of LI has totally changed my life and while I still have family there I will never move back. We just bought a beautiful 1935 Colonial for $201,000. You had to see the mansions we could have purchased for $258,000! Now Waterbury is a city but even in the nicer suburbs your looking at $350,000 for a really NICE home with 2 - 3 bedrooms and some land. Also, we have a lot less traffic and maybe it's just me but in general the people seem less stressed and more considerate of each other.
We are getting married on Long Island and it is a beautiful place. I'm not LI bashing - but getting off the island was the best thing I ever did. I highly recommend it.

Re: Q NWR
As much as I want to I can't stay here. I refuse to work the rest of my life struggling to live. I give credit to the girls that can, I wish I could. We are looking at the Carolinas and if FH's family moves there I, we are def. going. I want my children to grow up around some family.
