Q of the day

Original post by Mici n KC

There's an article in the Wall Street Journal today about single women freezing their eggs so they can have the option of getting pregnant later on. Would you do that given the circumstances?

Why Some Single Women Choose to Freeze Their Eggs

I think it's a very good option, although probably not something I'd do.

I just know there is nothing like having your own child-- according to my mother. She was told she would never have children and look she had 7 kids!!! And she had one at the age of 40!! Go MOM!!

but i know from talking to her about adoption etc. she said she wanted to exhaust all other forms of conceiving her own flesh and blood! she would definitely adopt a child if she could not have one of her own. And actualyl her and my dad are thinking about adopting a kid maybe in the next year or so since pretty much everyone is older now except my 9 yr old brother. But anyway....she has told me that there is no feeling like having your own DNA (technically) in your arms. And I would not be so willing to give up hope if I was told once I couldnt have kids.

But if in the end there was absolutely no way. I would adopt.

i wouldn't do it, nothing against women doing what they want in respect to having children...just in my heart of hearts i don't like messing with mother nature even if it would benefit me...

I didn't say that having a healthy baby later in life was impossible, I just simply stated that society makes it seem like once a woman hits her 30's she HAS to start thinking about babies and the longer she waits, the smaller her chances get of A. getting pregnant easily or B. having a healthy baby . If at 33 I had another 5 or 6 years worth of professional schooling to go through or i was just starting out in my career, I might think about freezing my eggs. I don't want to turn around one day and it be 'too late'. KWIM?

I know what you mean.........I am definitely not defending my right to be a late in life parent by any means.
