Q on designer handbags

Okay when I went away this weekend the gals and i were talking and trying to figure out the hierarchy of bags. Since we are very fashion challenged I said I can find out.

1) Hermes Birkin (who we never heard of until this weekend)
2) Fendi
3) Prada
4) Louis Vuitton
5) Coach
6) Dooney & Bourke

I know there are other designer bags but is this a good listing of bags that are designer, pricing and availability from the top?

Price wise...

1. Louis Vuitton
2. Prada and Fendi - pretty much same price pts
3. Coach
4. Dooney & Burke

I've never heard of Hermes Birkin so I'd just stick them up at the top

Totally depends...a fendi spy bag is going to cost more than many of the LV bags....

It depends on the bag. But I'd say that you can group Hermes, LV, Fendi, and Prada together in the same tier. Also, Chloe has expensive bags too. They're in the same tier as the others too.

thank you - it was like a huge discussion because we were like wth is up with paying so much for a bag and one of the girls with me said she pays half on good knock offs and she was giving us pricing and she said one bag was 1,500 as a knock off and our mouths dropped.

No never would i pay that much for an original let alone a knockoff

Coach is about as high as i will go on a bag

Your list is about right....
for the first one Hermes is the designer and the Birkin bag is just a type of bag they have. They have other bags and accessories too.

Also, the other person was right Chloe bags are really expensive, D & G bags are up there as well

Don't forget about Chanel (some can run as much as the cost of a down payment for a car) and Balenciaga, which are also extremely expensive.

I'd probably say....

Hermes Birkin

Chanel
>>
LV/Gucci/Fendi/Chloe/Balenciaga
Prada (either just below, or on the same level)

and then I wouldn't put Dooney & Bourke on the list

They obviously vary based on whether a piece is limited edition, etc but this would be my list.

D&B is pricey too. I think leaving them on the list is fine.

You mean Nine West doesn't qualify as designer??? What about KC Reaction or Tommy H? I buy those bags at Marshalls ....

I am actually going to get my sister a Coach wristlet for being my MOH and only BM ... she looooves coach but sold them all when she had her baby girl to make some $$$. I think I may buy one for myself too, it will come in handy on short trips to the grocery store, etc!

Am I the only one who doesn't consider Coach or Dooney and Burke 'designer'?

I don't have either.. nor do I have a designer bag period... I just don't see these as designer because the brand is so commercialized...
