~* QOTD 1/1/14 *~

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a good time last night and stayed safe. We split the night between FH's family and our friends house. And today we're going to my moms for dinner.

Today's question is, when/how did you introduce your family to FH's family? Any good stories there?

When FH and I went on our first date, he came to my moms house to pick me up, met my mom and the whole thing. And I had met his family in the first few weeks we were dating. But our parents never actually met until the day I had our daughter. They met in the hospital that day. We were together for 5 years at that point. Now we do a lot of holidays together.

Re: ~* QOTD 1/1/14 *~

I wish I had a good story! When I met his parents for the first time it was in 2008. (We officially began dating the next year). So they met me under relaxed circumstances. I was in the basement which is fully furnished, where we would often hang out and play games or watch movies. They came down real quick to say hello and meet me since at that point I had been coming over to hang out often.

FH met my mom first, in that first year of just being friends. Then he met my dad once we actually started dating. He happened to come by my parents house while I was stopping by (I was already moved out by then) and FH had an opportunity to meet him then. There wasn't a formal meeting like 'a dinner to meet the parents' kind of deal. So I got lucky in that aspect!

ETA: I misread your question! Lol. But I'll leave all I wrote anyway. My parents met his parents after a year of dating. So I think at some point in 2010. They came over FH's house for dinner and just to get to know one another. It actually went really smoothly. It was comical because my parents are tall and his parents are short. It was quite a sight! They haven't seen each other in the time we have been engaged though, in June. Gotta change that.

Our parents met up one night for dinner... it was hard to plan since FH is from CT and I am from NY. Needless to say, FFIL was due in NY for work, so FMIL joined him and met up with my parents for dinner. It all went off without a hitch... in fact, everytime they get together they always talk about how they wish they lived closer to one another! FH and I wish the same thing!!!

That's a great story! And you really don't hear it too often.

Our families met for the first time when we showed them our venue. FI is originally VA and his immediate family is spread out nationwide (NY-Cali!) thus he rarely gets to see them. They planned a little weekend get together to come up. The BM didn't believe me at first that it would be their first meeting while she toured them around lol It went pretty smoothly. They even had a luncheon together while me and FI had to work!

fh's mom's 65th birthday my dad came with me to her party in this park and they hit it off, FMIL loves my dad lol, they both love to cook so they go on & on. we always joke too bad we're getting married they'd be good to set up. we spend most holidays all together now.

my mom met his mom a few days before our engagement party in August 2012. my mom & stepdad are actually staying at his mom's house when my stepdad gets here in like 2 weeks for our wedding so hopefully they get to know each other lol. they've only met twice and barely talked.

Re: ~* QOTD 1/1/14 *~

FH's parents still haven't met my mother. I am very disappointed and hurt by their behavior towards me, as well as this ... I find it to be incredibly disrespectful. my mother is paying for the reception, and FIL's are not helping with anything for the wedding.

i have given up trying to get the meeting to occur, as they continue to ignore my efforts or make excuses. they can meet at the wedding - i am not subjecting my mother to this audacity.
