Thank you for all your responses yesterday! It was nice to hear all the responses & I am wondering whos FH is going to call my FH & give him some tips? LOL.

So, todays question is...Now that the holidays are over & gone (TG) how did you and your FH split your time between families?

For the most part we go to my families house but we do try to divide seeing each others families as best as we can. This year was nightmareish as we traveled to Long Island to see my family on x-mas eve then Long Island City to see his brother then back to NJ. Christmas day we just drove down to south Jersey to see his mom & stopped by a friends house then back home and I had work the next day. Between traveling, cooking, cleaning & then traveling again I was exhausted.

Once we have children this will not be as feasible as it is now. I'd love to hear how you all manage your holiday time :)

Wow! That sounds like a lot of driving! We are lucky in that all of our family lives pretty close to one another. We started Christmas Eve at my FH's house with his family in Bohemia, then went to my Grandfather's house in Brentwood, then back to FH's house. FH had to work Christmas Day so I spent the day at home with my family and he stopped by when he got home. We both said how we can't wait to have a place together so hopefully there will be at least one year in the future that we don't have to go anywhere and everyone comes to us! Lol

The holidays were crazy for us as well! Christmas eve we went to my uncles in Centereach for part of the night then went to his uncles in Babylon for the rest of the night. FH had to work Christmas day at night, so we spent some time with my family then with his family early....shellabella2 I totally agree with you, I cant wait until we have our own place and let people come to us

I'm jealous of anyone who doesn't have to drive on or off the island during the holiday time. This year we actually had it easier as we didn't spend Christmas with his family that live by us in Jersey. We were on Long Island (Selden) for Xmas Eve and then headed back to NJ that night so my step daught-to-be could sleep in her bed and go back to her (crazy) mother Christmas morning and then we did something very unconventional for my family... Fh, myself and my parents went into the city and had dinner. My sister was with her in-laws in Rhode Island so my mom switched it up... However the weekend after New Years we had to do makeup days, so Saturday day Christmas in Jersey, Saturday night frove to LI, Sunday Christmas with the other side of my family...

So long story short lots and lots of traveling in short periods of time..

Sounds like more driving than us! Whereabouts in NJ? We are in Wallington! Maybe next year we can all get a bus to drop us all off & pick us up so we dont have to actually do the driving! haha :)

That would make many of us happy, as it always turns into remember to stop drinking by this time... and we have to leave by this time to 'avoid' traffic but that never happens We are in Bayonne, I just google mapped your town, we are about a half hour from each other, not that far at all :)

Are you originally from there or Long Island?

Re: *QOTD 1/14/14*

HA HA!! My holidays are not over yet. I still have to see my father's family this weekend to celebrate Christmas with.

So this year our holiday schedule went just like this:
*Christmas Eve: His father's family n PA
(I normally go to my Italian family but didn't this year ~NY~)

*Christmas Day: We exchanged gifts at our condo in PA
Then we went to church with his step grandmother in PA
Proceeded to drinks at her house in PA
Followed by lunch at his sister's house to see his mom and her mother. Also to see his sister's in laws still in Pa.
I then left about 3pm and drove home to NY to spend the rest of the day with my mom and brother.
FH then left his sisters house about 8ish to drive to his step sisters house to spend the rest of the night with his step family

*Dec 27: Christmas with just his Dad and stepmom. It was the 'kids' Christmas where we exchanged presents with his parents and siblings.

*Dec 28-29: Was Christmas in DE with my aunt (mom's sister)

*Dec 31: Christmas with the Italian family/ New Year's Eve pajama part, since I didn't see them for Christmas this year

And FINALLY....

*Jan 18: Dad's family where I will celebrate with his twin brother and that family along with my Grandmother
(upstate by the Vermont Mass border)

*Jan 19: Dad's family lunch get together in Albany to celebrate together with the rest of his family that is in NY. The only one that will be missing is my aunt who is Texas.

Hope you aren't as tired as I am with this holiday schedule

HA HA!! Do I get a cool trophy for it?! My car is okay on gas. Luckily I was able to convince my bro to drive upstate this weekend so all I have to do is buy him some Mountain Dew and maybe a slice of pizza

Yup! FH lived here & I was laid off so I ended up moving here as it was more convenient so he wouldn't have to quit his job (although he works in NY right over the Tappan Zee bridge)

( I have no siblings that is all aunts, uncle's and cousins) then go back home to change super gave to have dinner at 2p! then go meet my God mother to exchange gifts then go to fh uncle's house bc xmas is his little cousins bday.... then back to grandpa's for dessert. it's all in the same town or 5 mins away thank God but it's so much running around its hard to enjoy the day! I gritted to convince fh that we don't have to have dinner with both families or keys switch this year diner with my fam next year yours but he wanted to make both. I was exhausted and I didn't have ti cook!!! I also made the mistake of going to work the next day! I was a zombie lol

Wow, i feel really spoiled FH and I live 3 blocks away from each other so we don't even have to stop at a traffic light in order to get to each others houses. lol Idk how you guys do all that traveling in such a short amount of time...especially since Christmas fell on such a bad day this yr.

Normally FH and I do christmas eve at my house and christmas day at his...this yr was a little different though due to work schedules.. no1 did christmas eve and we had to split up christmas day.

Christmas Eve we usually go to my aunts and Christmas morning we have brunch with my parents and my siblings and the last 2 years I have been making Christmas dinner for his family. His mom had a tradition of making lasagna that I now took over because unfortunately she had an aneurysm about a year and a half ago and is now in a nursing home. It is special to me that I can keep that tradition going. Next year we are hoping to have both of our families together for Christmas dinner. Not much traveling for us... FH and I live together in an apartment at his house and my parents live 2 blocks over.

*QOTD 1/14/14* - Long Island Weddings

Every year for Christmas and Christmas Eve we are usually with my family on Long Island. Me and FH have an apartment in CT where I go to school and his family is from here. The weekend before Christmas his mom does a get together with all her kids and their husbands/wives and her grandkids. We have dinner and exchange gifts like it is christmas. She does this because all her siblings usually go different ways for Christmas, that way everyone is still together one of the days. It's nice she does this and it makes going to my families house for the holidays a little bit easier. I love Christmas Eve and Christmas with my family because we have certain traditions. His family doesn't do anything on Christmas Eve. I know eventually I'll have to cave in and spend Christmas with his family. All of the other holidays I'm flexible and often we stay in CT for convenience with school and his job.
