Happy Friday the 13th!!!!!! I know a lot of ppl are very superstitious about today's date but it is always one of my favorites (reminds me of my fav holiday, Halloween & 13 has always been my lucky ##)!!! So I am def not superstitious about today but am about other things! So that leads me to today's question.....
What superstitions do you believe in and what do you do to combat them (i.e burn sage, throw salt over your shoulder, etc).
I do not walk under ladders (If I accidentally walk under one, I walk backwards under it again), I always take notice when a black cat crosses my path from left to right, I ALWAYS 'knock wood' when I want something to happen, I lift up my feet when going over train tracks (unless I am driving), If I see a lot of crows around I believe that means something bad is going to happen. Here is a website on superstitions for your reading enjoyment!! Have a great day ladies!!!
Well i'm a hockey fan so superstition is in my blood.... but its sports related... i wear Halloween socks for every ranger game... for football games I have to wear my Shockey jersey... and i can't be at a bar watching the game i have to be at someones house... i cant change locations during a baseball game...

I believe in the Italian culture the #13 is lucky. So in my family it's always been that Friday the 13th is a 'lucky' day. But I guess it's what you make of it. For instance, after my new car having 2 accidents, lots of people said it was bad luck. My mom turned it around to say it was good luck because it protected me and I walked away from them. Anyway, I think I'm going off topic here. I definitely do have some superstitions! I hate when people say 'never'. My FH always says oh, I never ..... and I'm like STOP!! If you say something like that around my mom she'll make the sign of the horns with her hands and this spitting sound. It's pretty funny! I also always knock on wood, and get really annoyed when a black cat crosses my path, but lately that happens a lot because there's a black cat in my sister's neighborhood.

I really am not very superstitious at all. I don't usually do any of the rituals associated with superstition.

funny Q. FH always makes fun of me for having so many Russian superstitions.
1. Never sing in the morning before breakfast - this will lead to crying during the day
2. if I have hick ups I have to drink 8 gulps of water preferably by someone else holding the glass. This ALWAYS works
3. if I see a black cat crossing my path (other than my 2 very black cats) I always spit 3 times over my left shoulder
4. I always knock on wood 3 times if I am talking about something good that I want to happen or about to happen in the future.
I can go on forever, but I will spare u

One of my good friends is Russian and shared a lot of his superstitions with me. And somehow it stuck with me--.one of them is to never place your purse or pocketbook/handbag on the floor. According to the superstition it means you will soon lose a lot of $$$..

Re: QOTD 11-13-09
I had a trip planned - a solo trip - right after the 9/11 attacks. (Yeah, it was to see Pearl Jam...on the West Coast...alone, at the age of 19). I was SO SCARED to fly...but I flew anyway, for the love of the band. When I did, I wore my grandpa's jacket from Vietnam and a PJ sweatshirt that I had just bought, and bought a copy of USA Today (which I think is total crap, and I still don't know why I bought it ). Now whenever I fly, I need to have both the 'Nam jacket and PJ sweatshirt and a copy of USA Today with me, or else I'm convinced that the plane is going down.
If someone I know is flying, I give them the sweatshirt as good luck.
I gave it to FH when he went to Bangladesh and he left it there Luckily, his brother was flying back to the U.S. a week later and he brought it.
He LEFT my LUCKY PEARL JAM SWEATSHIRT on the OTHER SIDE OF THE PLANET. But I'm still marrying him.

I'm not superstitious about anything, except the fact that the number 3 follows FH & I around like CRAZY.
But aside from that, I don't believe in any.

i'm not very superstitious. i try to avoid the black cat crossing the street, walking under a ladder, breaking mirrors .....etc but it doesn't automatically mean something will happen if i do. i also make wishes whenever the time hits 11:11!

Ditto. I don't believe in anything like that- my family and I had a long conversation recently on why I don't believe in ghosts either.

Hmmm, I didn't think of this one- this is actually the only one that I follow. Just in case. Because I often say something stupid like 'Well, I've never been hit by a car.' and then I'm afraid it's going to happen. I just knocked on wood for that statement and I typed it. LOL!
