Hey ladies. How did the FH 'pop the question?' Was it a surprise? Discussed before?
My FH and I did things a little out of order. Back in June, we decided on a date and fell in love with the Fox Hollow. By that time, we had been together for over 4 years, so marriage was a topic of discussion for a year or two, already. The FH would have been happy to just elope somewhere and save all this $$$$ for a downpayment, but this past summer I finally convinced him that he too wanted the LI wedding experience.
The FH swore me to secrecy about the wedding plans until he officially proposed (I was only allowed to tell my mom)...which was Sept 12th. Patriots/Jets game - his parents house - with his parents, brother and sister in law, and their kids all there to celebrate with us. I actually had no idea it was coming that day, but I then knew why FH was pounding Guiness like it was his job during the first half of the game. It was perfect - and the Pats won - making the day unbeatable :)

We talked about it.... but everything wa a surprise, we went to a few ring places together so he knew exactly what I liked. A year ago in December he poped the question outside of the Plaza, a total surprise!

We've been together for a loooooong time and have talked on and off about getting married. But, in the last year or so more seriously. Back in the beginning of the year we were at Macy's looking at rings, I kind of gave him an idea of what I liked. I really wanted a solitaire. A few weeks after that he sent me a picture of a setting and asked me if I liked it. It wasn't my style, but it was beautiful. He proposed on the 4th of July in front of my family and some friends of ours. I was definitely surprised. I knew it was coming, just not that day. It's funny how I thought I knew what I wanted in a ring, but when he picked out this one, added some design ideas of his own (he incorporated our daughter's birthstone) I can't imagine ever wearing another ring. It's perfect!

We were dating three years when he proposed... We were toying with an idea of having a party to celebrate us jokingly because of all the parties we were being invited to and he was like why cant we have a party.. I was like whatever.. At the time he always had a stance he was never getting married and I was honestly fine with that.. I didnt care if I ever got married being happy was all that mattered to me.. One night we were talking late night I think it was Yahoo Chat which is weird cause I was never on yahoo chat.. and he just IMs me and says lets do it lets get married.. I was totally raken back immediately thought he was drunk and was just aggreeing with him to humor him... Next morning I get a text that said ' Good Morning Future Mrs....' I was like huh..
He was like 'I was serious.. I know I said I never wanted marriage but its different with you I would be marrying my best friend and you made me change my mind.. ' He asked my dad that Sunday for his blessing and now we have been living together for 2 years now ( he was a bachelor with his own place since 1994 so I knew this would be the hardest adjustment for him but it really wasnt!! .. Anyway thats my long winded story. I went from being happy if I never got married to looking forward to being my best friends wife..LOL

back in January 2012 after our amazing trip to Vermont he was like let's go look at rings I think it's time (this was a year after officially dating). I was like OMG. I thought yay Valentines day proposal so we looked and yeah that was it lol. he told me to send him diamonds I liked from good old gold's website so I did. but yeah months went by we had a romantic day out in central park on one of those row boats, nothing! than Easter and nothing. finally we went to Niagara falls for our year & a half of dating. he was so nervous day we got there that he was acting weird lol. I kept thinking he was mad at me. (I slept the whole car ride and made him drive) lol. I had only gotten an hour of sleep the night before and wanted to be awake to spend our first late afternoon/night up there. but still I thought hey maybe at our fancy dinner tonight he'll propose? the first restaurant we went to was amazing, it had huge windows and you could see the falls. but no nothing!
next day we went on the maid of the mist boat and it was raining. than as we got close to the falls water was spraying us in the face on top of it raining and suddenly he was down on 1 knee with a ring out. totally unexpected. no one even noticed since it was so loud & crazy. We both totally missed the falls up close because we were too busy hugging & kissing lol. oh well.than I had to wait until we got into the gift shop to call my mom. and my ring was perfect exactly what I wanted :) though in a few years I probably want to upgrade it which GOG lets you do.
also before we had even gotten engaged we had ideas of when to get married, and I wanted to see the new room at Fox Hollow.... my ex before him told me he wanted to get engaged and for me to look at RH's everywhere so I already saw basically all the halls of long island lol. of course that was right before he needed a 'break' lol. but it lead me to FH still though because of my ex I barely wanted to talk wedding stuff until I had a ring on my finger. it was not fun waiting months and I kept being paranoid thinking FH changed his mind about me lol. he'd be like I am living with you and here everyday do I seem like I'm going anywhere?

I did not suspect anything that day. It was a random Wednesday night (June 5th) and I had just come back from school and then out again to run an errand in Manhattan, and back to Queens. I chose the perfect day to be running around like that, because he was out picking up the ring! It had come in sooner than he thought.
My sister was there hanging out that evening, which is not unusual as we are all close. He made up a story about my sister wanting frozen yogurt at this new place. We walked there, and he asked to make a pit stop at the church/school since it was on the way. The school had just turned into an academy and he wanted to see it. I bought it.
Just as I'm showing my sister the statue of the Blessed Mother outside the church, telling her why that particular statue is important to us, FH grabs my hand, says my name super seriously and gets down on one knee. I kept saying 'are you serious?' I have no recollection of what he said!
I whirled around trying to see where my sister went. She was behind a tree filming!

FH proposed in Chicago at Navy Pier, where we had our first date! Once he started talking I knew where the conversation was going. I remember a bit of what he said, but the rest is lost on me. I started crying I was so happy!

I was totally shocked. Two weeks prior, if you were to ask FH when he was going to propose he would say '*** marriage. Never.' Everyone believed it. I started joking saying we were going to be life partners lol. We already had our house together and were living together.
He proposed on a Wednesday night in our home, just the two of us. Total shock.

I knew it was coming but I was shocked when he did it because we were in the middle of an argument lol...typical bratty me was stamping my feet about our future and I was getting so upset because FH was just sitting there saying nothing with a smirk on his face. Little did I know why. After I carried on for about 10 minutes he handed me the box and got down on one knee and with tears down his face asked me to be his wife...I almost died!! It's not the engagement story most people want to hear but to me it was so perfect and I wouldn't change it for the world!
I knew it was coming since we had talked about it and browsed some rings but he definitely caught me completely off guard when it happened. He was so sneaky!

I was totally shocked since FH was out of work at the time. When he popped the question it was on Halloween and he used his mothers ring as she had just passed away 6 months earlier and left the ring for us. I died!!!
I knew it was coming because he let me pick out my e-ring and I went with him when it was bought. In late august. I kept thinking of alllllll the ways he was going to do it and I had NO idea when it was going to come. We had already discussed the date of 12/13/14 because it would give us plenty of time to save and it would be an awesome date!
On 12/13/12, he told me there was a meteor shower and he wanted to go watch it. So we had dinner and then we went out to Montauk, which is where we had our first date. We pulled off to the overlook and we parked. We got out of the car and we were sitting on the ground and I was on his lap. We were watching the meteor go by and he was just talking. He then went on to say 'and just think.. when we get married on 12/13/14.. we can tell our guests that there is a meteor shower because the meteor showers are always around the same time of year... and wouldn't it be cool to have a meteor shower at our wedding just like the night we got engaged?' and then I turned around and looked at him and was like 'what?!' 'are you serious?!' 'shut up!'
Then he was holding my ring and said 'So I have this ring.. do you want it? Because it wont fit my finger'
Then I kept repeating 'Seriously?! Shut up!' And the ring went on my finger and the tears came!
The big joke between us is that he never actually asked 'Will you marry me' and I never actually said 'yes!' lol
He gave me exactly what I wanted... just us <3
And because I wasn't expecting it and I didn't see the ring at first... I remember every moment and every word he said <3

I love our engagement story. We got engaged 12/23/12. I was at home with my parents cleaning all day preparing for the holidays and a few times he texted me about coming over and I told him I was still busy and If anything I will see him tomorrow.
My sister came over to pick up some of the gifts for the next night and after she left she called the house and asked to speak to my dad but I didn't think anything of it. Then she called two more times and I yelled at her and told her to stop calling cause ur getting me nervous that something happened. (She was calling to tell my parents that FH's sister called her and said it's happening now he's on the way.)
I go upstairs to take a shower cause I finally tell FH he can come and my dad is trying to keep me downstairs so I stay down for a few moments and said ok I need to take a shower. So I go upstairs preparing clothes and I hear a knock on the door and I knew it was FH cause he always knocks. So my dad calls me down and says can you get that I'm busy I said ok. I open the door and there is FH on his knee with a huge thing of flowers and precious moments figurine and the ring it. Here's the best part I see him I look and don't ask me why I turned around and walked away back into the house. FH had to call me back and I stood there like a little kid. Lol.
We still laugh at it. He did have other ideas on how to propose but he decided to just do it with my parents there which was very special for me.

2 weeks prior to our engagement FH and I were at a holiday party where we saw our friends who had just recently got engaged. Of course the topic of 'who's next?' came up and I ensured everyone it was NOT us! We were broke and couldn't afford a ring or a wedding anytime soon! When we got in the car, I apologized to FH because I didn't want him to feel pressure from my friends on when to propose. I assured him that I was in no rush and was well aware of our financial situation. I was happy to wait and knew it would come in due time. (All the while, he had he ring for 2 weeks prior to this conversation and said he had to hold back his laughter when I had this serious convo with him lol) Fast forward to XMas Eve... We had traveled down to Long Island to spend the holidays with my family and after spending the afternoon helping my mom make Christmas Eve dinner, the entire family came over to exchange gifts and celebrate. (nothing seemed weird at this point!) After the younger cousins had opened some of their gifts, FH handed an envelope to me. I was so confused as to why we would be exchanging gifts before Christmas morning like we said we would, so I was like ***! lol FH just said 'open it'- which I finally did! Inside the envelope it contained a packet of information with different clues for a 'trip to Chicago'. We had been talking about going for a while, and the packet had an itinerary for when we were going and everything! I looked at him so confused/annoyed (why the hell couldn't you give me this tomorrow morning I though?) FH just said 'keep looking- turn to the last page.' When I did, I found the words '...Just Kidding' on the last page. Even more confused now, I looked up to find FH down on one knee with an engagement ring in his hand. After my crazy italian family finally stopped yelling (they had no idea!), he asked me to marry him. We happened to get it all on video because my cousin was taping the kids open their presents! Kind of awesome how it all turned out :)
