QOTD 11.2.13

FH and I have our cake tasting today, to me this is one of the best parts of wedding planning. So let's talk cakes today...

What are the flavor combinations that you're leaning towards?
Do you want fondant outside or buttercream?
Are you getting a grooms cake?

I love all flavors of cake and FH only likes chocolate so it's not going to be easy to decide, I'm guessing all chocolate will be at least one tier.
I love the look of fondant when the cake isn't cut but it really doesn't taste that great
Undecided about a grooms cake, is it something that people still do?

QOTD 11.2.13 - Long Island Weddings

Flowers: we are getting calla lily and orchid bouquets with a little bit of roses to make it fuller.

Cake: we probably will use the buttercream and no we are not getting a grooms cake.

QOTD 11.2.13 - Long Island Weddings

I really haven't given this much thought yet. We bought 2 different cake toppers - one simple one for the top of the cake and another one to put on the table - we'll probably have flowers on it to match our colors. I want a funfetti cake!! But I got a big hell no to that I'm leaning towards cannoli or strawberry and FH wants to try the crème Brule (spelling?)

I definitely want buttercream instead of fondant. In terms of a grooms cake - I'm still undecided but if I do it, I'm going to do it at the RD.

QOTD 11.2.13

I had my cake tasting last weekend! Where is yours?
We are undecided but narrowed it down to 2 possibilities-
Vanilla cake w vanilla buttercream outside with choc dabash filling or
Devulsfoodncake w vanilla buttercream outside w choc mousse

In terms of decorations we will have battered schwartwalder callilies and white rose. With a full flower topper.

I want to do a grooms cake at rehearsal I'm thinking a rectangle cake w handcuffs on it saying bound by love since he is a cop

Re: QOTD 11.2.13

I'm not sure how I want it to look or with fondant or buttercream but we were learning towards cannoli for the filling. It's still early on for us though!

I am definitely giving him a grooms cake. I'm thinking a WWE ring where the bride and groom are duking it out haha

QOTD 11.2.13 - Long Island Weddings

We're going to be doing cupcakes... chocolate and vanilla. We're also doing a small two-tier cake so we can have a cake to cut into and to have the top tier for our one year. That one might be red velvet. I want very simple. A little shimmer/sparkle. No flowers (we're not having like ANY flowers at the wedding).

I haven't made any decisions about the cake topper or anything but I definitely want a fun one!

QOTD 11.2.13 - Long Island Weddings

FH loves anything chocolate. Our reception hall provides us with a four tier cake. So we might do two layers chocolate cake with raspberry mousse filling and two layers vanilla/ marble with canoli and chocolate chips. I am neutral regarding fondant or buttercream. I do not want to pay for any upgrades, and I have a specific design in mind, so based on that, the cake would be either fondant or buttercream. We might do a fresh flower topper, but I also like the customizable bride and groom cake toppers on Etsy.

As for groom's cake, I'm definitely having one at the RD. FH is already super excited about his 'grooms cake' lol. It will definitely be chocolate (maybe chocolate ganache??). It's either going to be an Atlanta Braves themed cake (he loves baseball and the Braves) or a video game related cake (I saw a cute Pacman cake or a Super Mario Bros cake). So excited to get him a groom's cake.

QOTD 11.2.13 - Long Island Weddings

I prefer chocolate, FH prefers vanilla, but we BOTH really like red velvet- so I'm thinking we might end up with red velvet. Truth is, I am not opposed to vanilla cake as long as there is chocolate filling inside! I suppose we'll have to see what tastes the best.

As far as buttercream vs fondant, I dont know that I have a preference quite yet- I will probably have to be convinced one way or the other when we get to the cake tasting.

I am definitely doing a grooms cake for the RD, but haven't quite decided on that yet either! I can't wait for the cake tasting tho! YUM!

We tried a bunch of flavor combos, and the best were vanilla with custard and buttercream and red velvet with oreo filling with buttercream... we went with the red velvet combo :)

The red velvet was amazing! FH doesn't like it otherwise it would be my first choice. Allison from the sweet peace is super nice and she has so many choices to choose from. You will enjoy this when the time comes

I don't know anything about my cake yet (and to be honest I'm not even a big dessert fan!) but I did just buy my cake topper and I'm obsessed!

We're doing a marble cake with cannoli cream filling, yum! We'll definitely be getting buttercream as opposed to fondant, and I'm still undecided on a grooms cake. I'd love to surprise FH with one at the rehearsal dinner but I know he would much rather I save the money then spend it on something like that so it really be more for me than him LOL

QOTD 11.2.13 - Long Island Weddings

Our RH is throwing in a two tier cutting cake.. Probably vanilla chocolate pudding there.. Then we are doing cupcakes Vanilla Vanilla and Chocolate White Mocha for everyone else. My friend who is making the cupcakes also bought a Darth Vader mold for a grooms cake.. Chocolate Chocolate.. and all icing is buttercream.. I hate fondant.. But we will have crystal sprinkle accents and choclate molds of some kind on the cupcakes.

Our RH includes a 3-tier cake, but I upgraded to 4 tiers...all vanilla cake with raspberry and custard filling. I was adamant about no fondant so we're going with buttercream.
