Morning ladies! Happy NOVEMBER!!! I can't believe it's November already - 2010 is almost upon us!!!
Today's question - will you be calling FH's parents mom and dad (as applicable)? What about FH - will he call your parents mom and dad? If not, what will you/he call them? If your situation is one that you're not able to answer this question, what are your thoughts on it generally speaking?
For me... I call FH's mom by her first name. I have been doing so for 7 years, and am not about to change that now! FH thinks its awkward if i called her 'mom' and quite frankly I have no desire to do so! FSIL calls her 'mom' and it's really weird bc they don't have the best relationship. I've only met FH's dad 2x (they're divorced, he lives in Florida). I don't think I ever called him anything and when the occasion arises I don't know what I'll do (first name vs. Mr. *****) I could never in a million years see FH calling my parents mom and dad. I actually don't know what he calls them now (it could be a 'hey, ....you' thing for all I know). My BIL's call them by their first names, so I'm guessing that is what FH will be doing when the situation arises.
I'm curious to see what all of you have to say!!!

hmmmm.... i'm really not sure. I've only met FH's parents about 4 times because they live in Kansas so i've never really had to call them anything. I always felt that they didnt 'like me' though until last week when they sent me a birthday email and signed it 'Love mom and dad M'.... I think i'd like to call them mom and dad, but it might take awhile to get used to it! Same with FH to my parents... We'll get there eventually but dont know how comfortable it'll be in the beginning!

I call my FMIL by her first name. FH does the same with my parents.

I have my own mom and dad thank u very much, I dont need other ppl's parents even if it is FH's. If I ever call his mom 'mom' I would feel as if I am cheating on my mom LOL I call his mom by her 1st name and so does FH with my mom. my dad actually calls my mom's dad by Mr. @@@ and my mom calls his parents also Mr. & Mrs. @@@@. My parents been married for 30 yrs and they still do that - weird

rigth now this is what we do. but i know my mom is from old tradition (and i imagine his might be too), and my mom would actually liked to be called mom once we are married. and she was the one to tell me i should call FHs folks mom and dad
so we will see...
i have been around close families where the daughter in law calls MIL mom and it sounds sincere and cute.

our families are really close and we see eachothers parents on a regular weekly basis. My FFIL wants me to start calling him dad right now!!! LOL. But we will be calling both our parents by mom and dad.

definitely wont be calling my FIL's mom and dad... i call them by their first names, if i call them anything at all...
sometimes FH will call my parents mom and dad, but its usually as a joke (with my dad anyway)... my mom has been a better mom to him than his own...

I kinda don't call FH's parents anything (its usually the 'Hey, how are you' lol kinda thing). If I have to call them something then it would probably be their first name. FH is closer to my family that I am to his so he calls my mom, Mom and my dad Mr so and so.

I'm still transitioning to 'mom and dad' with FH's parents. It started a couple months ago, and I'm getting a little more comfortable.
FH has been calling my mom 'mom' for years........as for my dad, he doesn't really call him anything

we both call each others parents by their first names... once in a while we'll slip in a 'mom' here and there just to see how it feels but we still think it feels a little weird

good question! There is no way that I would call his mother mom. When i met her I never knew what last name to use because she was married so many times. I ended up just calling her by her first name, funny story--- One mothers day I decided to buy a separate mothers day card to give her and I must have not read it that well because it said 'have a happy day , mother!' I thought it said happy mothers day. So when fh brought it to my attention I almost died. As far as if Gs going to call my parents anything it prob will be by their names. Although they just signed his bday card mom and dad. So who knows

I have no clue... I think FH will call my parents mom & dad... he already calls my Dad, Dad.
I can't even imagine calling someone besides my Dad 'Dad' b/c we are so close. But I can't like call his Mom 'Mom' and not call his Dad 'Dad'
Maybe I'll call his Dad 'Dad' and my Dad 'Daddy', that will work lol

I am going with First names. His parents live in Missouri and I have only met them twice.

yup... I will call his father Dad I think it will mean a lot to him. FH is going to call my parents Mom & Dad also. My father already said he thinks it would be nice. He has called my Mom, mom on and off for a while now so that won't be to much of a change

i never really say fmil name.lol im serious. its usually . hiiiiiiii or whats up??? i would neverrr call her mom!!!!!! no ffil. so thats one less thing to worry about.
fh would never call my parents mom or dad. im sure my father would like that but i would never ever allow it. to weird!!

I'll probably call FH's mom by her first name. I guess eventually it might feel natural to call her mom, but she lives in Florida, so I doubt it.
we do first names and I think we both feel wierd calling anyone else mom and dad!!! I figure it will be the first name thing until we have kids, then we can call them grandma and grandpa!!! LOL

No way. I work with FH's mom (have for 4 years) so I always call her by her first name. Though sometimes I do call his dad Poppa O'Connor as a joke. LOL! He also just calls my parents by their first names.

i call fh's mom, devil woman, lol....seriously though, you are lucky i call her by her name and not some other choice words. fh's father and stepmother just go by their first names and same with my parents.
